The Pharaoah also hardened his own heart. He did not want to recieve the Infinite Mercy of God. If he had, he wouldn’t have hardened his heart in the first place. The very life of the Pharoah until his death, is God’s waiting patiently for him to call upon the Lord.
Yes, he did harden his own heart. And the people of Egypt had 400 years to repent and chose not to. The only thing I would disagree with is the timing of God’s waiting for Pharoah to repent. I think by plauge 5, the waiting was over. If I remember correctly, this is one God first hardens Pharoah’sheart.

Well, Valke is Jewish, and I think that his compassion for the Iraqis who were terrorized by Saddam is very commendable. Valke is also a New Yorker and they suffered so much!
I understand how you feel too and I share your feelings, for two reasons, first of all, he didn’t have WMD so we tried and convicted him unfairly and second of all, I would like to know the exact situation with his friendship with Bush and company.
I am afraid that America is going to suffer behind this, and I live close to DC.
Just a quick note. Please don’t take anything I’ve said as supporting the death penalty, or anything else regarding the events after 9/11.

First …American’s did not try him…his fellow Iraqi people did …second he was not sentenced to death for his WMD but for his genocide of thousands of Iraqi’s.

Praying for the soul of Saddam is pretty low on my list of priorities. I’m sure God will understand if I choose not to ask him to treat Saddam Hussien with mercy. I will pray that his name be blotted from memory and may God in His infiite Wisdom and Jusitce, punish his soul for eternity.
I will pray for both you and Saddam Hussein. Please forgive me if I’ve misinterpreted your post here, but I believe it is that sort of thinking that perpetuates the hatred in the world. There are many people who I sometimes have great feelings of ill-will towards, but I have never prayed for God to punish them for eternity… 😦

Just speculating here, folks, but some reports quoted an official who attended his execution said that Saddam seems “oblivious” to what was going on around him. Could it be that at the moment of his death that he could not be held accountable for his sins against humanity due to some kind of mental incapacity he may have had? I always thought that he was somewhat disillusional and that came out during his trial.

Evermore so, then, prayers should be offered up for his soul…

Well, even if he was oblivious at the time of his death, I think it is more to the point of what his mental status was when he committed these crimes. Was he in full possession of his mind at the time he committed these atrocities, or ordered them to be carried out?

Actually, he wasn’t sentenced to death for this. That’s one of the things that some are upset about. He still had a genocide trial ahead of him.

I’m not sure how praying that a Hitler or a Saddam have his name blotted from memory (as if he never existed) perpetuates hatred. I might make a convincing argument that adoptinga belief system which allows someone to commit genocide and still find redemption would do more to prepetuate hatred.

Warning!

A reminder of the Prayer Intentions Rules.
