Hi, Im having a little trouble discerning Gods will for me at this stage in the game…I was a police officer, working patrol, SWAT, academy instructor, and also a college coach in addition to running an athletic ministry…was the All American Dream for me…about a year ago I was forced to medically retire at 35 with a bunch of health issues from botched surgeries and doctors mistakes…Im recovering well now thank God, thank God…but as I recover and gain some health and energy back, moving forward is not as clear cut as I would hope…I knew in my heart at the time I was a cop and a coach it was where I was called to be…but now Im not as sure which direction to take, and I do not want to do anything that Im not totally on fire and passionate about, which is why I was good at most things ive done…being passionate and excited about life and the things I was doing…

I want do go to grad school, but its been 10 years since my last masters so I have to take the GRE…been in a prep course and Im totally bombing the homework, not scoring as high as I will need for the PhD programs I want…I dont even know if Ill score high enough to get into some masters programs despite already have one…and regardless, Im only hoping that if I get into a program it will be something I am passionate about and challenged in a good way that motivates me like other opportunities in life…

Im still going to doctors all the time rehabbing and recovering from my own health issues, so I guess its ok Im not full swing in a grad program or working part time, but I do feel like Im in a rut in the sense Im not doing anything for anyone but myself even if it is to get better medically…where as before as a cop, coach, and leading ministry, it was all about serving God and others…so yea I do not feel spiritually connected or “worthy” as I used to be in a sense…my prayer life and scripture study has struggled tremendously…I was using the time off from work to wake up early and go to daily Mass, but since studying and struggling for the GRE the past few months that has slipped as well…Im just going to take the test and get it over with next week or the week after, so I can move on in whichever direction it is…if I have to take another year to study for this idiotic GRE when I already have a proven track record academically and 10 years work experience in two different full time jobs concurrently, I will do what I have to do…but it does feel like its dragging me down…

I dont want life to pass me by and I do not feel like Im living it as fully as I once did…please pray I seek and find the Will of God in my next adventures, career, social life, whatever it is now that things have changed so drastically in one year…

Thanks a bunch!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou among women and
blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

It does sound like that you are heading in the right direction, it’s just that it may seem a little tedious just now. With your attitude I’m sure that you’ll find your way again.

An Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and Fatima Prayer for your intentions.

Bluecollar: Please know that He will make His path for you clear in His time. Just be still and listen! Know that I am praying for you and may the Holy Spirit ease some of your worry and anxiety.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners

Amen.

Pax.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Know that God has brought you to this place for a reason. Sometimes He challenges us and allows us to feel uncomfortable and struggle so we may focus on Him more. His love for you is enough, although right now it may not feel like it.

I would encourage you not to let your prayer life or attending Mass suffer during this time. Make whatever small sacrifices you can throughout the day and offer even your disappointment and frustration to our Blessed Mother. She is able to take everything we offer her and make it pleasing to her Son. Pray for the intervention of the Communion of Saints, who are always eager to assist us. I will say a prayer for you also… 👍

It seems like you are really pushing yourself too hard. Here is a quote from Jeremiah 29 (1) that may help you get things in perspective:

Cease your struggle, know that I am in charge. For I know well the plans I have for you. Plans for your welfare, not for your woe. Plans to bring you a future full of hope. When you call Me, I will listen. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will let Myself be found by you.

Praying from today’s Liturgy of the Hours:

Part of Psalm 83 (84)

Blessed the man whose help comes from you,
who has set his heart on climbing to you.
They pass through the valley of thirst
and make a spring there:
the morning rain will cover it with blessings.
They will go from strength to strength:
they will see the God of gods, in Zion.

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen
