Pray for an end to poverty

Creator God,
You loved the world into life.
Forgive us when our dreams of the future
are shaped by anything other than glimpses of a kingdom
of justice, peace and an end to poverty.

Incarnate God,
you taught us to speak out for what is right.
Make us content with nothing less than a world
that is transformed into the shape of love,
where poverty shall be no more.

Breath of God,
let there be abundant life.
Inspire us with the vision of poverty over,
and give us the faith, courage and will to make it happen.
Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve:
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

Prayer for the Needy

Grant, Lord, that I may gladly share what I have with the needy, humbly ask for what I need from him who has, sincerely admit the evil I have done, calmly bear the evil I suffer, not envy my neighbor for his blessings, and thank You unceasingly whenever You hear my prayer.

Devotion to Saint Francis of Assisi

O beloved Saint Francis, gentle and poor, your obedience to God and your simple, deep love for all God’s creatures led you to the heights of heavenly perfection and turned many hearts to follow God’s will. Now, in our day, pray also for us, in our ministry to the many who come here searching for peace and intercede for us as we come before the Lord with our special requests.

I beg of you to pray and intercede for the poorest of the poor, that a God may bless them, give them strength, and reward them with life eternal hereafter.

O blessed Saint of God, from your throne among the hosts of heaven present our petitions before our faithful Lord. May your prayers on our behalf be heard and may God grant us the grace to lead good and faithful lives. Amen.

Saint Francis of Assisi,
Pray for us. Amen.

THE LORD HEARS THE CRY OF THE POOR
Based on Psalm 34

The Lord hears the cry of the poor.
Blessed be the Lord.
I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise ever in my mouth.
Let my soul glory in the Lord,
who will hear the cry of the poor.
Let the lowly hear and be glad,
the Lord listens to their pleas;
and to hearts broken God is near,
who will hear the cry of the poor.
Ev’ry spirit crushed, God will save;
will be ransom for their lives;
will be safe shelter for their fears,
and will hear the cry of the poor.
We proclaim your greatness, oh God,
your praise ever in our mouth;
every face brightened in your light,
for you hear the cry of the poor.

Amen.

Lord, I know that you have given me so much. You provide a roof over my head. You provide me with an abundance of food on my table. I have friends and the opportunity to get an education. I have conveniences like computers, iPods, and iPads. You have blessed me in my life with so many things that I don’t even know. How you keep me safe, how you protect those I love, how you give me an opportunity every single day to love you. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for these things. I do not know if I could handle any less, but I do know that you would be there beside me to give me strength just as you do now.

But Lord, there are so many other people who have so much less than I do. There are those that have no idea what life is like outside of depravity. There are those living every night on the streets, faced with dangers beyond my imagination. There are scary threats that face them every day, and every day is a struggle for them to live. There are those with health and psychological issues that cannot live normally that just need your protection. There are people that cannot seem to find their way through life that may not know how to hear you, but you can be there with them anyhow.

And Lord, I know there are people around the world starving. There isn’t enough food to always go around. Water is contaminated and a commodity that some areas on the earth do not have. There are children dying every day from starvation. And there are those facing daily abuse from those they love or look up to. There are damages done to people every day psychologically, emotionally, and physically. There are girls oppressed in countries where they cannot study to grow out of their oppression. There are places where an education is such a privilege a majority of people never have the opportunity to learn. There are so many underprivileged people in the world, and I lift them all up to you.

I ask you, Lord, to intervene in these cases. I know that you have a plan, and I don’t know what that plan is or why these bad things happen, but you say that the poor in spirit will inherit the kingdom of heaven. I pray that you will find a place for those that live thier lives underprivileged and suffering. I also pray, Lord, that you always give me a heart for those who have less, so that I always feel a need to do your work here. I pray that I can life those up and touch lives that need me.

In Your name, Amen.

Blessed be God!

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Divine Heart of Jesus, convert sinners, save the dying, deliver the holy souls in purgatory.

Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, increase in us our Faith, Hope and Charity.

Good Jesus, give me a deep love for Thee, that nothing may be too hard for me to bear from Thee.

Heart of Jesus, burning with love for us, set our hearts on fire with love of Thee.

Heart of Jesus, I put my trust in Thee!

Jesus I trust in You!

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our heart like unto Thine.

Jesus, my God, I love Thee above all things!

Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!

May the most just, most high, and most adorable will of God be done in all things, praised and magnified forever.

For Those Living with Poverty and Hunger

Our Loving Creator God, We bring before you this day the burden the whole world carries as it endures extreme poverty and hunger in every land. Stretch out your loving arms, we pray, to embrace the suffering women, men and children whose bodies, minds and spirits are shrinking before our very eyes. Help us to look, really look, with clear eyes and open hearts, to see the pain and hopelessness in their bewildered eyes. Kindle within each one of us a flame of love and purpose, and then Enable us to channel our love into action in every way possible and impossible. For this we pray. Amen.
