Hi everyone,

First of all, I want you all to know that I do pray for all of your intentions–even though I don’t post replies and such on any kind of a regular basis. And thanks to all of you for your prayers for me.

A few of you are aware of this, but, for the benefit of those who aren’t, for the past year, I’ve been having frequent “Immodium-moments”. Immodium doesn’t work. I have had two sets of blood tests, two sets of stool tests, a colonoscopy, and an ultrasound. So far, the ‘quacks’ haven’t figured it out yet (no dis-respect meant for those of you in the medical field). We’ve ruled out parasites/tapeworms, celiac, collitus, Crohns, and I have a normal thyroid.

Since last July, I’ve lost 50+ lbs. I could stand to lose about 20lbs or so more, but I’d rather loose it in a healthier manner!

I’ve been trying to keep a positive, hopeful, encouraging, etc. attitude throughout this until the doctors can get to the bottom of things (both literally and figuratively), but it’s been really ‘trying’ at times.

I’m starting to wonder if what’s causing the ‘moments’ is not physical, but psychological/spiritual?

My childhood was filled with abuse (mom at home and then was that ‘kid that everyone picked on’ at school). While I’ve come a long way–I’m very different today then I was back in college about 15 years ago, I know I still have some baggage that I need to let go of.

I’ve made an appointment with a priest this Friday. And part of me is just scared to death to go.

I’m ‘afraid’ of men in ‘general’–guys were the ones who were really ‘mean’ to me growing up, and my natural instinct is not to share anything of a personal/sensitive nature to any man–and just because a man is a priest doesn’t make me feel any more ‘comfortable’.

Well a series of events led me to meeting this one priest who’s turned out to be the 5th man I’ve ever encountered that I have this intuition about that he’s different. I definitely can’t believe in coincidences anymore–especially since other things have been popping up lately where I feel God is trying to talk to me (just short of hitting me on my head with a log).

So I’ve made an appointment this Friday, and I need all your prayers that I’ll have the courage to go, and will be able to get everything out.

And if what’s going on inside is not causing the immodium moments, please pray that the doctors will find the reason soon!

Thank you,

Barbara 😉

Babara,
I can not believe how strong you are! I’m just a teen, and compared to me, you have taken many steps forward I am not willing to. I may not be able to fully compreheld the situation, but what I can do is offer prayers. My friends and I will all offer prayers for you.
I know what its like to be abused, to want to run away-and yet, all your duties hold you back. When I was little, I was abused by my Dad (still am emotianally and mentaly, which is why I go to counseling…). So I never had a good impretion of guys in my life, and understand how scared you are to visit a priest who you are supposed to confide in, but don’t know if you can. I’ve had to go to priests for other reasons, but I found it easier when I took the advise and confidence he gave me as coming from God, my real father would do nothing to hurt me. Do you see God as your Father? Talk to God as your father, come to him helplessly and tell him everything. He won’t hurt you. He loves you. You are his little princess, how could he not see you this way?
And he will help this priest you are meeting on what to say to you. So don’t be afraid, because God will be there with you, guiding your every step, and guiding the priests steps as well. He will help you, but you have to let him.
Peace, and many Prayers,
Littleflower:)

I, too, have a problem with men. I can understand your position. It isn’t that different from my own. As far as seeing the priest, I’m all for it. Priests are about the only men I can trust. It’s just easier for me, I guess. 😦
Go see him as planned. If you find you aren’t as comfortable talking with him as you would like, find another priest. lol I’ve had to do that with mental heath therapists.

Barb:

You don’t need to post replies to pray for people - It’s just sometimes a nice way to let people know you care and they’re not alone…

When I was 17, I visited a place called St. Jude’s Ranch for Battered and Abused Children in Boulder City, NV. When we went to Boulder Dam, one of the little girls just couldn’t let go of my hand - that was her way of getting reassurance. She was at St. Jude’s because when she was 3, her parents had grilled her on a heating grate, so I know what people are capable of.

I can only imagine the pain you are in.

Please have the “quacks” check for Heavy Metal Poisoning by taking a HAIR SAMPLE… Please don’t ask me why…

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

Barbara,
We are praying for you at my house!
I know you have prayed with me before! Thank YOU!
I’m praying right now!
Pam

Barbara,

We are all praying for you, that your meeting with the priest goes well, and that the doctors find out the source of your digestive troubles. (We in this family can empathize with that; all of us have “tummy troubles.”)

In the meantime, have you tried yogurt with “bifidis regularis”, the probiotic that has been shown to help keep the “bad” intestinal bacteria in check? It cannot hurt, and has helped lots of people. If you don’t like yogurt, you can get it in another form at health food stores.

God bless.

For your prayer request:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

God Bless You

I will keep you in daily prayer,I recently went to see a priest, from a different parish, and had to be very honest, more than I had ever been with even my family,I feel so blessed to have found such a compassionate man,I also have a big trust problem with men, will continue my prayers for you,GOD bless you.

Please go and meet with the priest. I will pray that all goes well for you and that you overcome your stomach problems.

Barbara:

You should go and see the priest. I’m praying for your courage and also to gather stength in faith.

Prayerfully,

Renato

Barb,

I am praying for you…trust in the Lord, he will take care of you. God bless you!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ to heal those of our souls.”
“My Jesus, pardon and mercy, through the merits of Thy Holy Wounds.”

😦 😦 😦

Well I have to admit that I had to cancel.

I was all prepared to go, but my health situation kicked in. I was going to ignore the the feelings–cause so many times, they turn out to be false, but when I went to the bathroom–it turned out that they weren’t.

I’ve rescheduled the appointment and have told him I’ll go a couple days without eating just to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

So if you all could continue praying for me, that would be great!

Is it possible that you could be suffering a form of anxiety? A cousin of mine had really bad episodes like yours when she was caring for her grandmother and it turned out to be a result of stress and anxiety. You see, her grandma had raised her in a peaceful enviroment. But now grandma was dying of cancer and she had to go live with her mother, whom was really immature and unstable. This fear, led had her constantly having to run to the bathroom and it took a burden on her life. At the time she was in college, had a boyfriend and was a beautiful young lady. A doctor picked up on her stress-anxiety and was able to nurse her back to health.
I’ll continue to pray for you…

Stress and anxiety can certainly cause GI problems. My brother has always expressed his stress through his stomach, even when we were kids. Take it from this “quack” 😉 , the mind/body connection is a huge element of total health, and not to be underestimated.

BTW, have you been tested for food allergies? That is another possibility. Also, if you are taking any medications or using products with such sweeteners as sorbitol or mannitol, that could be causing your problem. We had a patient once who we worked up for weeks until we discovered that it was the sorbitol in one of his liquid medications that was causing the “immodium moments.” Just a couple more suggestions here, although I know we aren’t supposed to ask for or give medical advice. Mea culpa. :o

For your intentions:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Barbara, I will definitely keep you in prayer. I, too, suffer from episodes like yours. Have for many years, and with all the testing I’ve had, they only came up with “spastic colon” years ago, and now they call it “irritable bowel syndrome”. I’m thankful it’s nothing serious, but it can be awful. Not to mention embarrassing. And, Praise God, it’s not as often or as bad as it used to be.

On my own I have discovered that anxiety plays a huge part in my problem. But there are also foods that can cause occurences. Has a doctor ever tried an anti-anxiety prescription to try to help with this? Just a thought.

I pray you will see the priest, and that you will be fine the day of your appointment. I pray for a healing of all you have been through in your life. :hug1:

Hi Carrie/all,

I avoid sugar-free stuff, cause one, I don’t like the taste, and two, I’ve heard how sorbitol and mannitol, and such causes diarrhea. I know that dairy makes it ‘worse’–so I’ve eliminated all dairy from my diet. I’ve been drinking chocolate soymilk–and will soon transition to vanilla soymilk–trying to eventually get to plain soymilk.

I have an appointment with a gastrointerologist a week from Monday, and I’m going to bring everyone’s ideas/suggestions/etc. and really drill him. If he doesn’t tell me anything more than my PCP is telling me, than I’m going to see about getting a referral to one of the doctors at the U of A or something. I can’t travel to MayoClinic up in Phoenix or any other ‘long-distance’ trip–I won’t be able to make it.

I do feel stress/anxiety has made my condition worse–I’m trying to get my insides (both literally/figuratively) cleaned out in every way.

Thank you for keeping me in your prayers!!!

Barbara
