Hello,

This is going to be a long post, so forgive me. I understand if this is too much to read and you don’t feel like reading anymore. Long story short, I am asking for prayers for my husband and I to gain employment.

Here’s the long story:

My husband and I moved to be closer to my family after he graduated from college. We’ve both been unemployed for 5 months now. We both have college degrees. I thought for sure there would be more jobs in our new area than in our old area, but that hasn’t been the case. I’m a practicing Catholic, but I’ve been so depressed and have been having thoughts of suicide. I know this is very selfish of me and I don’t know why I have these thoughts. I wish the bad thoughts would just leave me and I could be happy again.

There are practically no jobs for my husband here that are related to his degree. Any jobs that are related to his degree are in places he doesn’t want to live. We both agreed that we want to live near one of our families, so our future children would have grandma and grandpa around. Since we don’t know where his family will end up (they will be moving soon, but they don’t know where), we decided to plant roots with my family.

My husband and I have no children (we wanted to start trying for a family last month, but since we are both out of work, we had to postpone our plans) and we are living with my parents until we find jobs and can afford to move. I’m kicking myself and just wishing I could go back in time and not move until at least one of us had a job offer.

The past 5 months haven’t been a total waste. We’ve been helping my parents renovate and fix up their house a LOT! If we hadn’t have been here, I don’t think a lot of the necessary projects would have gotten done. I just feel like our families are judging us by not having just a temporary job until a better one comes along. We’ve both been applying for jobs, but have been reluctant to apply to a temporary job since we are hopeful about getting one of the jobs we had applied for. But with each job, we apply, the closing date passes, maybe we get an interview (more often not), and then we get a rejection letter.

I’ve thought about going back to work at Wal-Mart (I used to work there). I am reluctant to go there because I was so depressed and hated it so much. I’m afraid that I’ll have to go back and then my depression and anxiety will just get worse.

It also feels like I’m the only one looking for jobs for the both of us. My husband doesn’t seem to care or he has just given up. I don’t want to just yell and tell him he needs to be looking for jobs too, since that won’t help the situation at all. I just wish he would be more proactive.

I’ve prayed so many novenas to St. Joseph, St. Jude, and St. Therese of Lisieux for their intercession, and so many Rosaries with no answered prayers. I almost feel like God is ignoring my prayers. I know He doesn’t ignore us, but that’s what it feels like. I feel like He’s angry with me or that I’ve disappointed Him in some way. I’ve prayed that He will let me know what His will for me is, but again, I haven’t heard a booming voice from heaven telling me exactly what He wants me to do. 😉

I know there are people carrying bigger crosses than my husband and I right now, but I am just asking for prayers. Prayers for both of us to gain employment, prayers to strengthen our marriage, and prayers for my suicidal thoughts to end.

Thank you for reading this book. I hope I didn’t come across as whining. For some reason, it feel good to just type all of this out. God bless you all.

Hi Grace,

Prayers said for both you and your husband.

May God bless the both of you during this really stressful time for you.

:gopray:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now ever shall be world without end
Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Prayer to St. Anthony for Employment

Blessed St. Anthony, who in life was ever mindful of the needs of the afflicted, consuming himself in the service of God and for the good of souls, who was the enemy of idleness and a tireless worker in the vineyard of the Lord, beseech God to grant Grace and her husband suitable jobs, which may procure for them decent livelihood, and be at the same time a means of personal sanctification and of real service to others. We ask this through Jesus Christ Our Lord, amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

St. Anthony, helper in all necessities, pray for us.

God our Father and Creator, You bestow on us gifts
and talents to develop and use in accord with Your will.
Grant to Grace5441 & her husband through the intercession
of St. Joseph the worker, as model and guide, employment
and work, that they may, with dignity, provide for each other
for care and support.
Grant them the opportunities to use their energy and
their talents and abilities for the good of all, and the
glory of Your name.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

In every need let me come to You with humble trust, saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments, troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as a Father and Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!
Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and shortcomings of every kind:
Jesus, help me and never forsake me.
Amen

Do not look forward to what may happen
tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares
for you today will take care of you tomorrow and
every day. Either He will shield you from suffering,
or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace, then. Put aside all anxious thoughts and
imaginations, and say continually: “The Lord is my
strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in Him
and I am helped. He is not only with me but in me,
and I in Him.”

I notice this is your first post and am sorry you are here in the midst of such a difficult situation as you are in with unemployment and suicidal thoughts. I will pray for both you and your husband to gain employment, and strengthen your marriage. I might think if you have suicidal thoughts it’s a good plan to see your family Dr or a professional to help you out with these thoughts before they become overwhelming and you are in worse despair.

Perhaps God placed you where you are to help out your parents with their house . Give yourself some credit for that. Most likely you parents are just concerned too about unemployment and not so much you don’t have a temporary job. Just a thought.

Remember that God is a God of hope and with him nothing shall be impossible.
Hang in there, and try to keep the Faith the best you can until your situation improves.

Prayer for the Intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina

Dear God,
You generously blessed Your servant,
St. Pio of Pietrelcina,
with the gifts of the Spirit.

You marked his body with the five wounds
of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness
to the saving Passion and Death of Your Son.

Endowed with the gift of discernment,
St. Pio labored endlessly in the confessional
for the salvation of souls.

With reverence and intense devotion
in the celebration of Mass,
he invited countless men and women
to a greater union with Jesus Christ
in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

Through the intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina,
I confidently beseech You
to grant Grace the favors she so urgently requires.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Praying to St. Joseph for you & your husband to secure employment.

I echo the prayers to St. Joseph…when you feel stuck in unanswered prayers, he’s the one to turn to. Good luck and God bless…

St. Joseph, pray for us and for all who invoke your aid!

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve, to thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley, of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us; and
after this our exile show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

Amen.

Thank you for letting us in on your needs. Don’t be sorry for “whining”–needing help isn’t whiny, especially when you’re in very real danger with suicidal thoughts.I will be praying for you and your husband. I’m a survivor of multiple suicide attempts myself, and Holy Communion is truly the fuel that gets me through. I’ll offer my next Mass for you, and please PM me if you want to talk.

In the meantime, I hope you’ll consider making a safety plan for yourself: suicidepreventionlifeline.org/Learn/Safety

Thank you for the prayers everyone! Seeing all of the responses brought tears to my eyes. I got another rejection a couple days ago, so I’m trying to accept God’s will. I definitely feel all the prayers. God bless you all!
