Hello everyone, I didn’t know where else to go, since I haven’t found fulfilling answers anywhere (even at my own Congregational church).

I humbly and desperately ask for prayers for myself: I feel lost and without direction. I am a baptised Christian who believes in God and his son, Jesus, but it is increasingly difficult to walk the walk. In America, society is full of people who despise religion and make it more and more difficult to sincerely practice it. Left and right they debunk the very core of my beliefs to the point that they become straw and meaningless. If what I believe is not taken seriously, then there is no reason to live. For I’ve discovered that He is the only reason to live. He alone, is the perfect judge and example of righteousness. Only through Him can good gifts flow. If we take out God from the picture, there is no reason to be righteous. There are so many misguided opinions (and strong ones at that) going around all over the world, amplified because of the Internet, news, and increasing communication abilities. The only rock of a foundation I have been able to find appears to be in the Catholic Church, but there are many things that make me afraid to commit, things that hold me back. I fear judgment from my parents as they are Protestant, I fear making the wrong decision with which college to go to and what to study (It’s my senior year and I still dont’ know!) I want to serve God with all my heart and I want to be exactly where he would have me, but I feel lost without a clue where to point my feet.

If y’all would pray for me, that is all I ask. I need God’s help more than ever. I’m so incapable by myself. I need God’s grace and strength absolutely if I’m to maintain the faith and ACTUALLY believe instead of making Christianity out to be a hollow philosophy or “just another way to look at the world.” My worst fear is that the very real and absolute truth of God and Christianity will diminish into this line of thinking and just get lost amongst the tangles of philosophies that have people quarrelling over nothing.

Please pray for me, I need help.

Holy Mother Mary please guide your child.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Please, do not despair.
Jesus said to his disciples to pick up our cross and follow. This is easier said than done. You know that for sure and you are not alone. I am praying for you…

**Let Nothing Disturb You
**
Let nothing disturb you;

nothing frighten you.

All things are passing.

God never changes.

Patience obtains all things.

Nothing is wanting to him

who possesses God.

God alone suffices.

St. Teresa of Avila.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me - a sinner. :crossrc:

Dear Lord,

Please bless Mort Alz with the grace in overcoming despair.

Despair can seem like a big big void. Only Your grace can overcome this abyss of nothingness.

Please bless our hope, our faith, in Thee.

Amen

Praying that you meet with a good, holy Catholic priest regularly for spiritual direction. He’ll be able to help you know what schools to apply to and he’ll be able to help you keep your faith strong and free from despair. He’ll be able to answer your questions about the Catholic Church and will be able to help you become a full member of Christ’s mystical body, the holy Catholic Chruch. Praying that you look into Franciscan University of Steubenville, as this school’s environment would make you flourish. May you see that you do have a pretty strong faith already and a strong love of God. May nobody and nothing ever diminish your faith and love of God or separate you from the Lord and his holy Catholic Church. May you fight against all temptations to keep away from his Church. May you know how much God is loving you and protecting you at this moment and may you place all of your confidence in God’s goodness and providence fully abandoned to his merciful love. Amen.

Dear Mort Alz,

God bless you for your humble good will.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
Psalm 34: 4-6

Trust in Him. He knows your heart and your problems and will give you the strength you need.
Whichever college you go to, the Lord will be with you. Apply to the ones that may suit or attract you, and remember that God will be in your heart, whatever people are around you and whatever happens around you. There will be ‘good’ and bad’ influences wherever you go. It’s God in you heart and mind that matters.

And regarding your parents…so many parents have had the sorrow of their children changing faith, and sometimes parents can be surprising. Consider how St Paul’s family, and the Jewish leaders who saw him as one of their best allies, must have felt when Saul changed his name to Paul and instead of persecuting and imprisoning Christians, he became one of the most dedicated early Christians.

And if you feel discouraged by your discomfort that you feel awkward about being a committed Christian when all around you others are living purely material lives, and even are hostile to your beliefs…well every one of the apostles except John, ran off and hid for their lives when Jesus was arrested. Only John stood by him, Mort. You don’t want to emulate Peter and the others in their time of weakness. I believe you would prefer to be as John.

If the Holy Spirit could give Saul/Paul and John the courage to stand with Jesus when all around were either fearful or hostile, the Holy Spirit can give you that…each day, step by step.

Love and prayers, Trishie

As regards debate with others, give your heart and mind to God and trust Him to preserve you. You are God’s son. You are precious to God.

And be mindful, that Scripture teaches us

“Have nothing to do with the pointless philosophical discussions and antagonistic beliefs of the ‘knowledge’ which is not knowledge at all; by adopting this, some have gone right away from the faith. Grace be with you.” [1 Timothy 6 20-21]

** “The time is sure to come when, far from being content with sound teaching, people will be avid for the latest novelty and collect themselves a whole series of teachers according to their own tastes; and instead of listening to the truth, they will turn to myths.” **[2 Timothy 3:3-5]

**“This…is what I pray before the Father from whom every family, whether spiritual or natural, takes its name: Out of His infinite glory, may He give you the power through His Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height and the depth; until, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God.”

“Glory be to Him whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine; glory be to Him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.**” [Ephesians 3: 14-21]

I’ll be praying for you.

Dear Lord,
You knew us while we were still in the womb, and even today you care for us. Please help guide your child Mort Alz and be with him or her always. Lord, you said that you go before us. Please protect and guide Mort Alz in this time of trouble, and help show him or her the way.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou amongst women, and Blessed
is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our deaths.
Amen.

Hail Mary conceived without sin.
Pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Pray for us who have recourse to thee.

PATER NOSTER,
qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,
sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen
