Hijacking this: What about praying when you are on the throne (I actually did my best work and thinking in there)

Related to that, you may not want to borrow my laptops.

I covered that already on the only time I would pray on the throne.

Closest I’ve come to that is when I say the Divine Mercy Chaplet when I’m in the shower.
I pray in the shower all the time! Just the other night, I was saying Hail Marys in the warmth of my bath. Nothing wrong with it at all. Naked is natural, and God made us that way. There’s nothing wrong with it, especially when we are alone.

If God meant for us to be naked, we would have been born that way!

God knows us with/without dress. Its not really wrong to pray without clothes. In other words while you’re bathing, changing or on throne. But in my opinion a BIGGGGG NO to this!!! if someone doesn’t dress up intentionally while praying or for prayers. Its weird and disrespectful for me. I’ve watched a show on Discovery, where the entire community (men, women, preacher) were naked in a prayer session. Its absurd!

It’s definitely weird to pray naked: I will second on that. I would never do public prayer or prayer in a public place nude as that would be immodest and distracting. However I think it’s a different matter in private, especially considering the intimate relationship we have with Him.
I totally agree that how we comport ourselves affects how we pray. In my case, I find that baring my body helps me to bare my soul before God.
I guess my question to you and to all who have gratefully contributed to this thread is how would stripping down to pray be disrespectful

OP, in my experience the most vulnerable you can be with God has nothing to do with your state of dress but with one’s humility, trust, and obedience. I have put my trust in God with a very serious matter and praying “thy will be done” and meaning it was the most vulnerable I’ve ever felt.

I would not try this where I live, I have too many windows and my neighbors are too close. It would be beyond distracting. Being humble before God is more difficult anyway.
Thank-you. Humility, Trust, and obedience are far more important. I just find that praying the way I do makes these more concrete for me, as kneeling would. Please point out any objections you may have to this.

God knows what you look like naked, your doing it for yourself, your feelings. I suggest you just pray with reverence and don’t obsess about being naked. Plus I don’t want to be thinking about people praying in the nude. Also, God can wait till your done in the bathroom.

Praying for you all:)
You’re right, I might be obsessing with nudity too much.

Are we not taught not to do anything we would not do before God Who sees all?

Being naked is inherently immodest. Certain body parts should be covered.

Back to Genesis and Adam and Eve.
We are aware of sin.
Thank-you for your comment. If it’s * inherently* immodest, then taking showers would be immodest since we are naked. So I wouldn’t say nakedness is inherently immodest, but oftentimes, that is, there a some times when it is not (eg with a spouse)

I do want to be seen by God naked because he makes himself naked upon the Cross, and upon the altar when the Mass is celebrated, the re-presentation of the sacrifice of Calvary. Adam hid, but in my sinfulness, I want to run to Him for help.

No objections. I had already considered that it would be a more concrete experience.

Public praying while naked is wrong!

My bottom line is : Pray naked alone only in an emergency!

When I had food poisoning I completely stripped off as I felt as though I was on fire and prayed for it to end.

Have in the past prayed in the shower.

Otherwise I always have something on.

Have you ever heard of the TAN book Under Angel Wings? Its about a young girl who later became a nun, but when she was a child she saw her Angel. She describes how he taught her modesty. He would correct her when she would put on stockings but not position herself that modestly. He lifted her off a horse when she was on it like a boy and he hid her view of people on the beach and a movie. Some people might say this is just a private revelation but even though its private, not public revelation, its not against Catholic teaching.

I read a comment by Peter Kreeft that in our current condition, the human body is more dignified with clothes. Adam and Eve it seems had some sort of light or glory about them that we don’t in our fallen state. There’s concupiscence but it seems something else changed too.

St Padre Pio could read souls and he counselled a woman in Confession to dress more modestly in her home in hot weather - she didn’t say that to him, he read her soul. So it seems like God and the Angels want us to be clothed out of respect for our body as well - also to help chastity.

There’s obviously nothing wrong with not having clothes when people have to - like taking a shower. But I don’t believe we should do this intentionally. If someone is without clothes due to necessity and they need to pray, for example they are about to get an operation and are nervous, or to fight a temptation, or just a habitual remembrance of God… Thats different… And we should always remember God and stay with Him in our hearts. But when there’s a choice to say our prayers, i believe its more reverent to be dressed, if possible.

It doesn’t sound like your intent is at all irreverent so I hope what I’m saying isn’t too harsh. The intent to be vulnerable before God is good but there are other ways to do this too… Like thinking of our nothingness and misery and submitting to God’s Will… Just some thoughts…

One time, while I was in bed, I had the strongest sexual temptation I ever felt. I would not go away even after a long time of fighting it. Eventually, I stripped naked and knelt before the crucifix offering to God my body and my purity, and it went away. In such a situation, I found it very helpful.

I remember St Benedict and others did the same when fighting their urges, but they also jumped into thorn bushes. Ouch!

I think praying in your PJ’s would be a better alternative…except if you have a thorn bush outside! 😛
