what member do you pray to or do you just pray to “God”
Most often “Κυριε ελεησον, Χριστε ελεησον, Κυριε ελεησον”. I guess that makes 3 for Christ versus 2 for God-in-general.

What Robwar said.
For sure.
I do, however, begin each day, before I even get up, by asking the Holy Spirit to show me what I should do that day…who needs ministering to, how I can help my pastor, how I can show compassion to someone.
And it always turns out well.

Definitely Jesus. My most common prayer: “Jesus I trust in You”.

can I just pray to “God” instead of addressing a member of the trinity.sorry for this silly question but i just want to pray to "God"and i want to make sure its ok. thanks
God loves you, and is not going to get upset about which human word you use as a form of address. Even in terms of attitude of address, there is more latitude than many people realise, because God is more than big enough to be able to cope with our misplaced anger.

Pax Christi!

It’s close, between the Father and the Son. Slight edge to the Galilean.

God, all Persons thereof, bless.

I guess I may be different. Because I don’t know what things come from the persons who share the same substance I usually pray Marian prayers to take me to her son. They say it’s easier to get to Jesus through Mary and from Jesus you go to God.

Yup, this is detailed in The Catechism of The Catholic Church. If you don’t have one, I’d get it. I’ve seen them on Amazon for as little as $3

It’s wrong to pray superstitiously or to pray for something evil (such as for something bad to happen to someone you dislike). But other than that, I can’t think of a “right” or “wrong” way.

1/2 to Our Lord and 1/2 to the Father

I came from Mormonism where we were forbidden to pray to Jesus. Yes, they told us how to pray…always fold your arms close your eyes and bow your head, start with Our Father in Heaven, say your thank yous first then your prayers of petition, always say thee or thou, never you or yours because it is more reverent, and this is the most important of all NEVER use a set prayer not even the Our Father. So when I became Catholic I had a hard time praying to our Lord. Not anymore, though. 👍

Um, what?

Sorry, but I was under the impression that the LDS at least self-identified as Christian…
LDS do consider themselves to be Christian - but only because they don’t understand what Christianity is or what it means to be a Christian.

LDS are taught to pray only to the Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus. All their prayers begin “Dear Heavenly Father…” or “Father in Heaven…” and they all end “I say these things in the name of thy son Jesus Christ amen”.

To be fair, there is biblical precedent for this (the Lord’s Prayer); and the Catholic mass follows this tradition, being one long prayer and sacrifice to God the Father in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. Most Mormons would be surprised to know this.

But LDS are forbidden to pray to the Mormon Jesus or to the Mormon Holy Ghost, because they are not our god, they are merely our spirit brothers, born - just like us - from a union between the Heavenly Father and his countless eternal wives. Jesus is our eldest spirit brother, and thus was chosen by the Father to act in the role of our savior.

There is no known reason why the spirit brother they call the Holy Ghost was chosen among us for his role in the plan of salvation. The LDS believe that the Holy Ghost will one day be born onto the earth to obtain his physical body like the rest of us - a requirement if he is to progress toward full godhood like the rest of the LDS.

So no, they are not permitted to pray to Jesus or to the Holy Ghost.

P.S.: Now my most oft-spoken prayers during the day are “Come, Holy Spirit” and “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner”. I need these prayers and so I understand why I was so lost without them.

Just a side note: Many of the early LDS believed that Joseph Smith was the incarnation of the Holy Ghost. This was mostly because, shortly before his death, Joseph had begun to intimate this secret knowledge to his plural wives and inner circle of friends. But secrets never remain secrets for long.

This idea became so ingrained in the LDS belief system that the 1st Presidency, some decades later, felt it necessary to issue a statement commanding the LDS not to believe or teach that Joseph Smith was the Holy Ghost.
