I have heard in the past that you must have an intention in order to pray the rosary. I have also heard more recently that you can pray the rosary without in intention. Can someone help this soon to be convert out? Can you pray the rosary just because? Or do you need an intention?

A natural intention praying the Rosary is to honor Mary. If it is your intention to ask her help with another intention, obviously you should ask.

Hi! I was really confused by this too, when I joined the Church. You can pray the Rosary with, or without, an intention. If you don’t have a specific intention in mind, then your prayer time is “just” time spent with Christ and with Mary, which all by itself is awesome and comforting.

Either is acceptable. Without an intention actually has the intention of increasing one’s own faith. When offered for an intention, one may benefit both the intention as well as personally.
