I was against it for a long time. I spoke out about it. I said it was profane, disgusting, and unholy. I lamented the death of gilded pages marked out carefully with finely dyed linen ribbons, the death of sewn bindings and of supple goatskin covers.
But with an increase in cell phone reimbursement from my employer, Santa saw fit to bring me an iPhone for Christmas - my first smartphone. I put the Divine Office app from Surgeworks on it of course. Today I listened to the midday prayer through the bluetooth headset, reciting each word just a half second behind the narrator and…
I have spoken but did not understand;
things too marvelous for me, which I did not know.
Therefore I disown what I have said,
and repent in dust and ashes.
(Job 42:3,6)
I still won’t bring it to Mass, but let’ just say that I get it now.
