Ashly,

Punishment may not be the sole reason she was banned. Yes, parents are chiefly responsible, but that in no way means pregnant students have all the “rights” and the school and has no obligation to maintain order and decorum as they see fit.

Catholic schools have a code. That code needs to be obeyed, if not then why go there in the first place?

The other argument about abortion is plain silly and irrelevant to the issue. One may certainly be forgiven, genuinely loved, yet still suffer the consequences of their bad actions.
i dont find the argument silly, i find it something that people find hard to face and hard to deal with. my sister often said the only reason she ever regreted keeping her baby was because the one time she went to church while she was visibly pregnant the people there were so mean and cold and distant to her, she hasnt been back to a church since. i hate to say this but this type of hypocrisy really deters me from ever putting my kids in Catholic schools, I know i dont want them growing up with that type of “holier than thou” garbage and “hide the sinner show no sin” type of attitude.

No prob.

The school is a proper authority. This authority has a established regulation to address the situation in which she was involved in. There is a proper channel in which to address any miss-action taken by the authority, real or perceived.

We are only presented with the story form the media. And as such have no idea what all transpired behind closed doors.

The girl acted in a manner outside of the legal construct, when there were appropriate and legal means. She did so in defiance of a legal and proper authority. Here actions of dissent set a precedent for such immoral and illegal public dissent. And as such will only act to undermine any future actions taken by the authority wither appropriate or not, whomever they may involve.

Here dissent stems from the sin of Liberlism. Such actions can be associated with the actions of Eric Rudolph, Martin Luther,
and most noticeably, Satan.

This is emotionally charged dialogue without merit, the morally relativistic portion of your appology.

To neglect to administer punishment simply because there may be a chance for the mentally immature to commit a greater sin is to allow Satan to dictate when we should take proper action. It is handing over our rightful authority to him, through a perceived, and most likely invalid fear.
how is it invalid? what basis do you have to call it invalid? who was the last unmarried pregnant teen you were around? Were you ever an unmarried pregnant teen? because i have had 3 in the past four years in my life, friends and family all three of them. i saw what they went through, what they were treated like. the one time i was embarrased to take someone to church was when i brought my unmarried pregnant sister to mass with me. and i wasnt embarrassed for her, i was embarrassed for me, the fact that the parishoners i thought i knew so well in the Church i loved so much were just awful and hateful to her. i mentioned her experiance above. i saw what all three of them went through, i heard their fears, my statement IS VERY valid, because i heard it straight from the horses mouth. and as far as it being emotionally charged you are absolutely correct it is, emotionally mentally and spiritually as these are my facilities which dictate my emotions and opinions in my life. i pity people who act on mentality alone, what a waste of brain matter!

Emotions have no place in the discernment of Truth.

The issue is her dissent form authority. Not wither or not the schools auctions were appropriate. I repeat even if the schools actions were to be found unjust, she did not follow the proper channels. THAT is the issue at hand. THAT is the sin that disgusts me. TAHT is the issue you are blind to because of your emotions.

I’m sympathetic to the unwed mother, but that is no excuse for dissent. I still have done none-other than show them as much compassion possible.

But even so, there is no excuse for the disrespect of authority that she had shown.

…in accord with Catholic teaching for moral conduct.
…Catholic teaching, which in no way suggests that the female party has committed a greater sin than the male party in a non-marital sexaul act (despite actions by some of her children in ways that suggest this).

I would rather falsely be accused of being holier than thou than being full of false compassion.

I cannot see your argument about hypocrisy?

I really do not want to address your sister’s situation as these personal issues can become to emotionally charged.

One thing I find distressing is the attitude that one will go to a Catholic school, yet only follow the rules as they see fit.

The news article did not repor the full story. Do we know for certain that the father was prohibited from the ceremony? Do we know exactly what transpired between the school and the girl?

All we know is the girl was told not to come and she did.

The father was there and received his diploma and his name was listed in the program published by the school. The girl did not have her name listed and the school had its goons expell the girl’s mother and aunt when she walked across stage.

This article is helping me restore my faith in Catholicism.

However, this thread is making me physically ill. I’ll have to leave the good fight to the rest of you who truly have Jesus in your hearts.

http://bestsmileys.com/angry2/6.gifWhy was the father allowed and the girl not:eek: **Yes the girl should have been obedient but the school was unjust by barring one and not the other:mad: Every week at the abortion mills I see the young girls go in:tsktsk: Dragged in by their "boyfriends"some upset and crying:tsktsk: Why was the father not subjected to the same punishment:mad: Fornication is a two way streethttp://bestsmileys.com/angry1/4.gifBaahhhh!:banghead: **

Where is this evidence? Even if true, that does not explain the entire situation.

I believe the “agree to disagree” approach works better than lobbing emotional dirt balls. :ehh:

I am surprised you accept this type of school. I think it is great, but I am waiting for you folks to claim discrimination or that these girls are treated as second class citizens. What about their friends? Are they not humilitated to go to a special room only for pregnant girls? I would think you would demand they stay in the school where they were?

Once again we see liberalism at work. Any attempt at standards or protecting our young people is seen as unChristian by too many.

The Church needs more people like this Sister Rose, what an amazing human being. God truly works through this woman, to take in what other more close minded “people” shut out. God bless her for what she is doing to save these women AND their babies from the clutches of Klanned Parenthood. Thats what these girls need, they dont need to be berated and abused by society, but loved and accepted and nurtured and taught. WAY TO GO SISTER ROSE! This too restored my faith in the Church. not everyone out there is out to shun and shame these girls, some one out there wants to help them, help them choose life, and then help them live one.

i love how when anyone on here mentions anything with a little bit of charity and compassion we are automatically labeled a “liberal.” this thread has nothing to do with political standings. and i dont see this as protecting young people, i personally see it as sheltering them and then hiding anyone whos ever made a mistake away. what if you dont see them it never happened? its happening. the approach needs to change or the abortions will continue. why not give them a better option, like this school mentioned in the above article? why not give them a chance at the choice of life being a good one?

Personally i think its a far better alternative than the hate they are being beaten with in their original schools. unfortunately Catholics like this Sister Rose are few and far between when it comes to unwed teen mothers. These girls need positive Catholic influences in their life like her, not others who label them as sinners and cant find it in their hearts to forgive.

Thanks for this comment, Brad! I’ve been in a depression about this all day, wondering (for the first time since I became Catholic) whether I did the right thing in joining the Church. Baptists don’t even allow dancing (at least my old church didn’t), but even Jerry Falwell can figure out that we are called to hate the sin but love the sinner.

]

Catholic 2003 i couldnt agree with you more, i have felt the same thing. over lunch i was talking about this very issue with my husband and about the rainbow sash incident last week. i told him that sometimes i cant believe i didnt see it before i converted, he asked me what, and i said the hatred that so many in our Faith seem to have towards anyone whos not them. He and i seriously considered leaving the Church. neither of us wanted to belong to something that holds so much hate. then i went to my Legion of Mary meeting and he to his MOM meeting (men of the Mesiah) we came together again that night and talked about it. im sharing this with you because i hope it helps in some way. we both agreed that our Church is based on love, forgiveness, peace, reverance, Truth and tradition. Thats what we fell in love with when we converted, thats what makes us feel so at home on sundays at mass, thats what gives us the peaceful feeling after confession. and theres no way we are going to let the negative over take the positive. Keep the faith my friend. Our Catholic faith is a gift that no one can take from us without our permission. no one can take that joy, that love that we have, because God himself gave it to us. Catholics come in all different ways. while some prefer to be hateful and call others who dont believe the way they do, Liberal Catholics or Cafeteria Catholics. while i just prefer to believe we all chose to love in a different way. we all chose to be in the world in a different way. keep the faith and love you have for our Church.

God Bless.

AND BRAD!!
I have to say even when you and i disagree you do it with such grace and class and gentleness. i always enjoy reading your posts. thanks for your charity on a subject that can get ugly quick. God bless you friend

No liberalism is putting the wants of the individual above all else.

No one has a problem with the alternative school. Our problem is with her dissent.

My wife and I conceived out of wedlock. My parents conceived out of wedlock. My grandparents, both sides to my knowledge, conceived out of wedlock. This is not a new problem. Then what is the difference today? LIBERALISM! The boys are not being raised into men to suck it up and marry whomever they impregnate. Teen pregnancy is not higher today than it ever was, but the “me first” mentality and radical feminism that came about in the 60’s has destroyed the unfortunate teen mother.
