I don’t think we should be so eager to push overwhelmed young fathers into signing away their rights. They don’t stay boys forever, in a few years they will be men.
I understand why you feel that way. I understand why the man in his 30s feels that way. And in a perfect world, like the Walgreen’s commercials, all this wouldn’t happen in the first place.😉

HOWEVER

…I’m just saying, this is what happens. Not that it’s right, not that they should, but it is what happens. Celciliia needs to be aware of this, because she should know she probably will not be able to count on the father of the child and/ or the parents.

We don’t know how old the father is (Cecilia, if you’ve posted it somewhere, my apologies for not reading closely). If he is 16, then IMO he is not likely to be a sexual predator,
Jen,

I agree with you. I thought there had to be a 3 yr age difference which would make him over 18. If it is under that, I would not prosecute only because the law says I could. If he’s 18, I would take his mental conditions and the parents’ allowance of their friendship into account. I see no reason a 19 year old man would be with a 15 year old girl and would look into options at that age and above.

I was a teenage mom.

I got pregnant at 16 and my parents were in total shock. I had a lot go through my mind and my heart and I can tell you I was so frightened. I decided to keep my daughter but I went through catholic charities and met some who gave their babies up. I am now 31 and my daughter is 14. If you or your daughter would like to speak to me… feel free to pm or e-mail me.

The road I chose of keeping my baby was so tough and yet God shined His glorious light on me and my daughter and I know I made the right decison for me. She is my flesh and blood. She was created out of me sinning and yet she is perfect. God is amazing and He will guide you all. You will be in my prayers and I am here if she needs someone to talk to who understands.

May God bless you and your daughter:)

Wow - I had no idea people were still posting on this. For those of you who have shared personal stories, thank you - that has been a huge comfort to me, and I have been blessed in my community too. I find myself blurting everything out to all kinds of people and they are being so supportive. Thank you.

For those of you still arguing about the father, he is 17, not my idea of even the boyfriend I would have chosen for her, but still - he is the father and the one she wants, at least for now. I can’t help it - I am hoping he’ll run off now rather than waiting a year or two down the road.

But we are not pushing for any charges to be made, and we are working at coming to peace with the fact that she does need to make this decision, and all we can do is help her see the huge responsibility she will have if she does choose to keep the baby, as well as hold her accountable for her choices. It’s scary to trust her with it, but I believe the counselor who told me that forcing her to give the baby up will only bring us and her more problems over the years.

Thanks for all of your posts, and please keep praying for us - I can feel it working!

Have you talked with his parents yet?

I’m glad you went to a counselor, Cecilia! 🤷 it will make life smoother a bit.
