But don’t put it past Trump to not yell over his Muted Mic in an attempt to interrupt. Trump is Trump.

Biden could have easily diffused him by waiting for him to finish intturrupting and asking, “Are you done now?” or similar. Instead he chose to fight back with such brilliant retorts such as calling Trump stupid or saying, “Shut up, man!” In reality there have been contentious debates before, but Biden did so poorly that they had to rearrange the rules to give him a fighting chance.

I just wonder if Trump will get muted when he asks Biden about his son?

Why? I say let it play out. If people really are as bothered by Trump’s action as they claim, it will affect the vote. If viewers are really bothered by it they can always change the channel. There has been too much “muting” going on lately in the press (I’d say censorship, but that it a term reserved to the government). Like I said above, Trump was poking the bear at the last debate. It didn’t work as intended so I would expect him to change up his tactics this time. This notion that Trump is 100% bully 100% of the time is ridiculous - I think he uses a wide range of negotiating tools that people choose to discount.

So the Mic Muting becomes the equalizer. Or at least it will attempt to be an equalizer.

I will be extremely surprised if Trump does not attempt to shout over the muted mic. It is his nature to bully and interrupt. The view of the side by side will be more interesting while Biden is talking. I believe Trump will be fuming and fidgeting because he can’t interrupt.

Based on the negative press, I doubt that Trump will be as aggressive in interrupting Biden this time.
You think not? Did you see Pence debate Harris? They are using interrupting as a tactic, that’s pretty evident.

I want something like Lincoln’s famous ‘Freeport question’ to Douglas where he boxed him in about the expansion of slavery. Douglas had a problem whatever he said in response. (I think Lincoln had asked him the question before but he wanted Douglas to respond on the record.)

The closest I have seen to that in my lifetime was when Diane Nash asked the mayor of Nashville in 1960 if he believed that “discrimination on the basis of color” was wrong. Although it was not a debate, she had boxed him in! The mayor admitted that he thought racial discrimination was wrong.

I was fortunate enough to meet Ms. Nash about two years ago and she told me that she knew how he would answer before she asked the question. Just like Lincoln.

Trump and Biden’s only previous debate last month was marred by frequent interruptions from Trump, leading to calls for the debate moderator to have the ability to cut off each candidate’s microphone while their opponent spoke.
Small clarification, the moderator will not have control of the microphones. The production crew will handle that.

I don’t understand why anyone would want some third party, unaccountable to anyone, determining what the American people can hear from a candidate during a debate?
Most people probably think the debate commission is some kind of government agency. They don’t realize it is literally just left-wing partisans.
And if Biden can’t figure out how to get his point across in a debate, how will he do when negotiating with the leaders in Congress or foreign leaders?
Unfortunately, the Democrats don’t care. It is “Anyone but Trump” for them.

Why so much victimization? If what you say is true, so what? Are you saying that Trump will be treated unfairly? That particular claim is old and inaccurate.

That’s why there were no Democratic primaries. Biden was just anointed.

This will hamper Trump. Part of his shtick is to poke, prod, interrupt, and bluster to keep his opponent off guard and unable to build up any momentum.
On the contrary I think this helps him. When your opponent is faced with an obvious hardball question, you’re supposed to let them talk. Let them squirm for an answer and hopefully you get some ad fodder out of it. The more Trump talks, the more he gives to Biden. The more he interrupts, the more he can’t take home with him. That mute button is going to help save him from himself.

But, will the inability to talk at certain times hamper Trump and throw him off his game?

I think it depends whether he’s playing to his base or trying to extend his reach to other voters.

LOL, what am I saying.

How?

Interesting theory, but I don’t buy into it.

I think so. Trump is Trump. Every fiber of his being will want to interrupt. I would lay a marker down that he will attempt to shout over the muted mic.
