Shocking!

My friend’s friend, A is an active homosexual. Yesterday he asked my friend, E to accompany him to a talk given by a Catholic priest in non-Catholic Church on homosexualty. I already felt that something wasn’t right, but I didn’t know how bad it was. So I told her to accompany him.

Today she came home angry, because the priest is a liberal priest! He disagreed with so many Catholic teaching (masturbation, homosexuality, ordination of women, etc). He said to have sex without love is wrong, but if 2 homosexual people, love each other, having sexual relationship isn’t wrong.

He continued saying that we should follow our conscience. A who thought that it was wrong, went home feeling good because he never knew that “the church approved it.”

I was so upset also, because I shouldn’t ask her to go. If she didn’t go, he wouldn’t go. I just feel so guilty.

Anyway, this is the link to the event, there is a few videos where the priest said that he hoped the teaching on homosexuality would change.

Let’s pray for him.

You are facing something many other Catholics have faced–a dissident priest. I don’t blame you for your mistake. Unfortunately, though, because of the present situation in the Church, it can be important to use discernment first and to find out about a priest who will speak on a Catholic subject on which dissentors hold dissident views, and probably it would be better not go if unable to find out beforehand, since such a talk can be very disturbing

i often wonder about dissident priest, nuns, religious etc.
can’t their superiors do anything about it?

In many cases the person in charge is also a dissident. In some cases the person in charge does not know what is happening because they are busy.

Pray and make sure others know what is happening.

Too busy to rescue the lost sheep? Now that is way too busy indeed. :twocents:

My feeling exactly. If they are too busy to rein in those that are teaching against the faith, and parishioners and others are learning what dissident priests are teaching, no wonder so many of us are so poorly informed on the teachings of our faith.

Good for your friend! And good for the priest.

Dialogue is never a bad thing, so long as it is done peacefully and respectively. The ‘other side’ ought not be silenced.

If you don’t believe something…leave. Don’t betray those to whom you have sworn allegiance. That’s treachery, and in a religious context that’s heresy as well. How could that be good for anyone?

The ‘other side’…like NAMBLA?

Sorry, Exalt, some voices don’t deserve to be heard, and some positions simply shouldn’t be treated “respectfully”.

God Bless,
RyanL

Thanks! Please pray for me, if you could.
I’m becoming very skeptical with priests in general. I can’t even get myself talking to them now, it’s just… hard.

The fact that any priests that I meet could have unorthodox opinion. Not only priests, even my Catholic friends, I suspect that many of them do not agree with the Church teaching. Well, I’ve found one yesterday and I think many will appear soon. If I follow my feelings, I’m already out of the Church. 😦

It’s a ridiculous and fallicious tactic to pretend that I was talking about a group that supported child molestation. I don’t appreciate attacks like that. When you want to start a debate without such insults, we can talk.

Good grief…your response to problems within the Church with priests, dissident groups et al is to leave Her!

I’ll pray for you.

Best,

Iowa Mike

I never said I agreed with this but that this is the excuse given to others.😦

There’s a word that we all need to learn and get used to…APOSTASY.

It’s building stonger everyday.

In this case, what can I do?
Since the priest in question is already known to diocesan authorities to hold heterodox beliefs, the question is how to respond when he spreads these false beliefs to others.

I would talk to a priest I trusted and ask for advice. Mention the newspaper article and the talk that your friend attended, then tell him your concerns. If the heterodox priest needs to be reined in, ask how you should proceed: who should be contacted, in what way, emphazing what words or actions, etc.

Thanks. I sent an email to a seminarian (similar to what I posted here) and he told me that the clip “isn’t really substantial.” So I decided that this may be not my problem and probably God don’t want me to do anything except pray about it. I believe God will not let these people destroy the Church. He’ll do something.

Without enough evidence, it’s difficult for me to speak out about this matter. Definitely, clergy will have more power than me and people will respect them.

It’s really an eye-opener, because I realised that there are many Catholics (clergy and laity) having similar view to this priest, even my president in the Legion of Mary said that he personally belief that there are things that should be change in the Church after I gave him the link to Wolves in the Sheep’s Clothing (!!).

So I just have to be careful whom I talk to and be more careful with the clergy, because they aren’t as holy as one would think. 🙂

I’m quite okay now, but I’m just not really comfortable talking to Catholics whom I don’t know very well.

i don’t agree. I think we devout Cahtolics should go to these kinds of things and raise a ruckus - stand up and tell the priest, right there in front of everyone - that he is out of line. He needs to get out of the priesthood (or - preferably: REPENt)…

What is the difference between voluntary sodomy and voluntary child molestation? Other than age, I see none - in both cases, a terrible physical abuse is being inflicted on someone, where that someone is agreeing to be abused - for whatever reason.
