What your priest said would bother me too, but I would ask him
more about it and give him a chance to explain why he said that.

I am entering the priesthood, and I know that that there is inherent truth in astrology. There are many parallels between astrology and our Christian faith. I’ll name a few that come to my mind.

As others have noted before me, the Magi followed the truths of astrology to the newborn infant Jesus.

Aside from the twelve signs that appear during the unfolding course of the year, Earth also enters massive astrological ages of influence that shift once approximately every two thousand years. These ages are connected to religious change, amongst life’s other aspects. The last such age, the age of Pisces, (The astrological sign of the savior) began about two thousand years ago, and was initiated with the birth of Christ. When Earth’s northern hemisphere enters such an age, the sothern hemisphere enters the age of the opposite astrological sign. It was also at this time that Earth’s southern hemisphere entered the age of Virgo, (The astrological sign of the virgin) which reflects Mary, the blessed Virgin.

Each sign has its own symbollic glyph and symbol. Pisces (Christ’s sign) is symbolized by fish, not different from the ichthys of the early Christians. Virgo (The Blessed Virgin’s sign) is symbolized by a virgin. Virgo’s glyph resembles the letter “M”, for “Mary”.

Christ’s twelve apostles are said to be related to the twelve signs. Aries, the first sign, the sign of a leader, is associated with our first Pope, Peter. The other apostles are also associated with their respective signs.

I believe that there are parallels between the stars and the Earth because this is how God masterfully designed the universe. The stars do not govern the Earth, nor does the Earth govern the stars. The two merely reflect one another, in natural harmony.

There was a time when I was so well versed with the signs, that I could deduce a person’s astrological sun sign merely by examing certain physical features of theirs, as well as their mannerisms.

Certainly, to some degree. After all, we believe that God created the stars “for signs and for seasons and for days and years” (Gen. 1:14). The Magi divining the birth of the Savior by the signs they read in the sky are only one example.

There is a true Christian astrology (that has its limitations and bounds), and then there is a far more prevalent secular astrology.

That sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

You explained that quite well. As I have heard the same. As for the OP…geez louise…just ask him. I bet he was joking.

I have also heard that Judas Iscariot was a Pisces. The symbol of the fish tethered together, pulling in opposite directions.

Yeah, you guessed it, I am a Pisces. 🤷 True to the max. Emotional, empathic, looking at the world with rose colored glasses…😃

Difference thought on Peter. Thought Peter was an Aquarius, Matthew a Cancer…John the Beloved a Capricorn, Andrew a Saggitarius.

Sorry OP…but I don’t think a priest joking about being a Scorpio is a big deal. Anyway, if he is…don’t make him mad…Scorpio’s are very tempermental. (just kidding 😉 )

Our priest told me 2 weeks ago, when I remembered he had a birthday in the same month as my husband, he told me he was
a"scorpio" I told him, Father, I don’t believe in that" and I said
bye to him, and walked out of the church shaking my head.
I thought it was very disconcerting to hear him state that! I
wonder if I should talk to him about it? It makes me seriosuly
wonder if he believes in astrology? Why would he state that?
He did not say it in a laughing manner, nor did he seem to be
joking about it. There was nothing light hearted about his statement.
It was matter of fact. I did not misinterpret what he said. I heard
it with my own ears. I was kind of disappointed to hear him say
such a thing. 😦
Im a scorpio too! LOL! 😃
No seriously I am. I get my horoscopes in my inbox.
they’re just like fortune cookies, they don’t hurt you if you don’t believe them.
(which i don’t by the way)

I have read we are not to dabble in any of this stuff, if it doesn’t come from God the Father it can only come from the powers of darkness…We are forbidden from doing this under the 1st commandment…I was listening to a talk by a priest that laid it all on the line and he said we only trust in God…anytime we try to predict the future by other means we are putting our trust in something or someone other than God

If anyone is interested I can give you a link to listen to it yourself if I still have it

Astrology

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone” (CCC 2116).

The pagan world was dominated by belief in astrology. Pagans believed that the stars were divinities, or that they were controlled by divinities. Apollo was the god of the sun, his sister Diana was the goddess of the moon, and the known planets were named after gods as well (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn). Because of this common pagan belief, the Old Testament contains repeated injunctions against star-worship (Deut. 4:19, 17:3; 2 Kgs. 17:16, 21:3–5, 23:4; Jer. 8:2, 19:12–13; Zeph. 1:4–6).

In the New Testament age, astrologers taught that all things were in the grip of Fate, which could assign one destiny to one man and another destiny to another. Fate was extremely powerful and sometimes was even said to rule the gods. However, what destiny Fate would assign to a man could be determined by reading the stars.

Today some Christians are influenced by revived paganism in the form of the New Age movement. Some even suggest that Christianity originally held many occult beliefs, such as astrology. But the early Christians, like the early Jews, were vehemently opposed to astrology, even attributing it to demonic origin.

The Church Fathers were willing to impose strong sanctions against astrology to protect their flocks. In A.D. 120, the noted mathematician Aquila Ponticus was excommunicated from the Church at Rome for astrological heresies. In the quotes below, Augustine records that such sanctions were still in force in his day, three centuries later, and could result in a person’s being excommunicated.

the three wise men, saw the astroligical sign that led them to baby jesus…

I dont believe in all the horoscope stuff, but i do believe that god put the starts up there and he could have created a sort of “clock” and dec 21 20012 it ends, according to some calanders…

just a thought

Well, I am about to go find myself another parish. I live far away from the approved Latin Mass where I like to attend. So, there is another
church not to far from where we live. I have this feeling that if I talk to our priest about my feelings, he might not like it no matter how nice Iam about it. Iam just going to let it go, and find another parish. 🙂
Oh please don’t leave without giving him a chance to explain. 😦

Okay, I edited this because I saw your post saying you were going to talk to him.

I have never used astrology to “predict the future”. There are about four main uses of astrology that I am aware of. I am compelled by natal astrology, which reflects aspects of human personality, human nature, and tendencies.

As I said before, I believe that there are parallels between the stars and the Earth because this is how God masterfully designed the universe. The stars do not govern the Earth, nor does the Earth govern the stars. The two merely reflect one another, in natural harmony. The stars do come from God the Father.

All astrology is forbidden ask the apologist. I am not making it up

I guess you missed the part where the posters said they didn’t believe in it…that it was harmless fun. And the posters who wrote about the stars in the sky made by God.

When go out for Chinese food, do you turn the place mat over?

In Chinese astrology…I am the Dog…woof, woof…😃

this is a reply to william II. i agree with you. there were also 12 tribes in israel. in judaism, astrology is accepted.

i feel that the heavens were created by God and are as intrinsically created as everything here on earth. i also like natal astrology. i do not use astrology to read the future and i do not read a daily horoscope. i used to be into it more than i am now. i am knowledgable of the 12 signs and i am a pisces. i agree that they parallel one another. the stars have served everyone since the biblical days to the architects in egypt to the ancient island navigators who used the starts to guide them. i don’t question why God created everything. i remember when i was a kid, practically everyone had their tonsils removed. they were seen as unnecessary. tonsilectomies are seldom performed today because they realize now they do serve a purpose. man in his arrogance has no right to question what God has created.

there is a pattern to me having to do with human nature and the signs.

if a priest off handedly mentioned he was a scorpio, i wouldn’t let it bother you. like someone said, everyone probably at least knows what their sun sign is even if they know nothing more about astrology.

The ccc doesn’t say it is harmless or fun, jut that it is forbidden…We don’t get mats at the restaurant I frequent, so it isn’t a problem

anytime we try to predict the future by other means we are putting our trust in something or someone other than God … The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. There is a difference between attempting to determine the future based on the stars and “reading the signs” as the Magi did. A Christological astrology is one which is not encumbered by “horoscopes” and “predictions”, but rather recognizes God’s sovereignty over all the universe, including the stars which He established for our benefit for signs. I do not know the specifics of such an astrology, but I’m sure there is a genuine Christological astrology.

I am just going by what I have read. I have read anything occult/new age is forbidden, so I leave it alone…ask an apologist…the CCC seems straight forward about it…I don’t split hairs I do as I am told

This is from ask a Franciscian

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future” (#2116).

The text continues: “Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and re-course to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.”

I think it’s fun just to look at old ones and see how they were able to tie into something that happened that day.

Like, for example, one for one day in the fourth grade was “you will get a lucky break” or something like that. That day, I got to skip choir practice for some reason, and I didn’t like choir at all at that time.

I don’t see anything wrong with that. They’re so vague you can tie them in to anybody.

It’s not what we see is wrong ,it’s what the church forbids us to do

If someone asks him what his sign is, it would be better for your priest to reply,“The Sign of the Cross.”
Haha that is awesome, in fact I think I’m gonna say that now when girls I meet ask what sign I am.

I don’t believe in astrology, m’self. I do know my sign, my birthstone, my birth flower, and my Chinese zodiac sign. Mainly because the first three are in just about every calendar and the last on – yes – Chinese restaurant placemats.

The closest involvement I ever had with astrology was wearing a zodiac sign on a chain. It was sterling silver and from Consumers Distributing. It went well with my burgundy velour pullover, polyester bellbottoms, and 4-inch platform soles. (It was 1978, mind).

Neck chains were all the rage for the lads in my peer group at the time. Your choice was pretty much limited to: zodiac; an eagle; a tigereye “bearclaw”; a “good luck horn”; or a razor blade. I was informed many years later that the “horn” meant “horny”, the razor blade meant “I do coke”, and the bear claw meant “gay”. 🤷

Luckily I opted for the astro: but only because it was relatively cheap.

I think platform soles and bellbottoms were probably the greater sin.😃
