The pastor of my parish recently attend a marriage between two men. he sat in the front row and wore his collar?

Is there anything wrong with this…Should it be brought to others attention??

I think he showed remarkably poor judgment in doing so. His presence would seem to some an approval and his wearing clericals might even signal to the uninformed, approval by the Church. If he was related or close to one of the men, he might have considered skipping the wedding and reception to avoid scandal and simply expressing his hope for God’s hand in their lives, privately.

As for reporting it, I think I would first speak to him one on one and very gently try to help him understand your concerns.

Start with first point, the same-sex wedding is wrong.

Let’s assume for sake of argument that the priest feels very strongly about this issue. He could have gone without his collar. People don’t have to know that there is a priest among the guests. Therefore, if he’s there in his collar he is compromising between the Church’s position and his opinion.

If there is proof positive, then his superior may want to know. But I would communicate that with him in a very discrete and respectful manner. Discrete means, don’t throw blame. Just share the fact and let the bishop or the religious superior, whichever is applicable, decide how to proceed.

It’s the best that I can come up with.

Gee - I wonder if he usually wears his collar when out and about.

This makes me happy
Your position is not consistent with the unchanging teachings of the Catholic Church. One cannot be authentically Catholic or even Christian, and hold that homosexual acts are permissible. But then, you already know this.

The priest should be immediately reported to his superior bishop. Include specific dates and, if known, the name of the pseudo-couple who pretended to get married.

Actually, there should be some confirmation that this priest actually attended such wedding. Right now, we have a thread that is nothing more than hearsay.

I daresay that unless the OP was in attendance to witness this priest being there, the OP should be keeping his/her nose out of the matter. And, of course, if the OP was there, what was the OP doing there?

I agree with you. How does the OP know the priest was there. Is he simply spreading gossip or was the OP also there and if so why?

Why? because he attended a ceremony committing two people together to a loving relationship?

There are pictures on him in attendance at the wedidng, that is how we found out he was there…

And how, pray tell, did you come upon these pictures?
There were pictures of this wedding on line…someone else looking and them reconized the priest, and the rest is histroy. The Diocese of London will deal with it now…

If they are anything like the diocese of Columbus then deal with it means ignore it.

two thoughts.
  1. How does anyone know that the priest was there, how clear were the pictures? Also, pictures don’t tell the whole story as to why he was there, or how long, or what he was doing there.
  2. Since no one knows why he was there, who is to judge him for it? Maybe a mother of one of the men was there, but it was killing her, and this priest was in attendance for her, to help her deal with it. Maybe he was there to answer questions? My guess is that he was there for somone, not the wedding itself. Maybe it’s not even that, but something no one knows about. I suggest to the OP that if he has a problem with what happened, and it’s causing him scandal, he needs to go to that priest, rather than risk spreading a possible falsity around that he supports something so radically against church teaching.
