I can’t tell if this is sarcasm. I sincerely hope it is.

I think that’s why most of us skipped right on past that, sarcasm or not. It read like a huge “do not engage” warning to me.😆

Men’s brains can be monumentally creepy.
some men’s brains are monumentally creepy.
All brains can be monumentally creepy.

In either case, the burden of creepy monuments falls on the curator of creepy monuments, not their unwitting muses.

You’ve never seen stats / articles about how often men think about sex? It’s a lot…and way more than women. It’s seriously just a fact. Basic psychology.

The point is that there are things that faithful Catholics can reasonably disagree on, and people shouldn’t go around saying anyone who doesn’t hold to their exact same standards doesn’t know how to dress for Mass or is being disrespectful or something
THIS!

If the universal church has no definitive teaching, nor your local bishops any guidance on the subject, their silence is for good reason.

Eyes on the prize folks! Eternal Salvation. People’s clothes may change as they grow in holiness, but not if we drive them away.

Thinking about sex is not creepy in and of itself. Ogling women’s bodies and saying they should dress to accommodate your penchant for ogling is more than creepy.
Some men are creepy. Some men ogle. Some women choose to dress so they are not the ones being ogled. Some women don’t realize they are being ogled. Some women call attention to themselves in a way that might lend itself to being ogled more easily. BTW I am not personally attacking you, but I feel you are personally attacking me.

I’ve seen a lot of different stats and it seems to vary by who’s doing the research. I’ve seen everything from “not really more than women” to “basically all the time.” So I’m not convinced those stats are reliable.

You’re right. That seems like more than a just at mass thing. So maybe we get the most bang for our buck out of promoting at the parish level programs that study our inherent dignity and also protecting our children.

Oddly, I found femininity in dress tends to attract more negative attention than less coverage. I know when I lived in rougher areas, I would get creepy responses much more if I was wearing a long skirt and a blouse and had my hair and makeup done, than if I had on skinny jeans and a tank top.

At Mass though?

Don’t think I’ve ever seen any overtly negative reactions at Mass either way, so I don’t have much basis to tell you there. Honestly I’ve never had anyone comment on or react to my clothing at Mass, other than generally stuff like “that’s a pretty scarf” or “you have powdered sugar on your top.”

Just skimmed through the last barrage of posts. Ogle, and it various derivatives, is a very funny word. Thanks for that earwig.

Edit: sorry, off topic

But I would rather have them ogling my cardigan, rather than my cleavage, tramp stamp, etc…🤣

You should see what some of the Irish traveller/gypsy community wear for mass in the uk. Not to everyone’s taste for sure but surely better that someone is there than not there

‘And the onus should be on those men not to ogle.’

Why is it so hard to say ‘Men shouldn’t ogle AND women should not dress in a way that would tempt men to ogle’?
