Fair enough. And that’s fine that parents take issue with Harry Potter. I have no problem with that. What irks me is when people misattribute words or sentiments to our Holy Father that he simply did not say. We get that enough in the secular press, we shouldn’t have to encounter it in the Catholic press as well.I remember well that controversy about Harry Potter and Jimmy Akin and while they did stretch the truth about the Pope condemning it, you have to realize that part of its mandate is family friendly news. Some Christian/Catholic families don’t like the Harry Potter series.
You are absolutely right. It was narrow in scope. I do not mean to broadly condemn LSN. People were asking for evidence that they can skew things at times, so I offered the example that I remember.I read Jimy Akins post. It was very narrow in scope. It did not condemn the site. It condemned the manor in; which, a story was written. I find it hard to condemn a site because of one story.
I really struggle with this thread. I have been posting on several “liberal” secular sites and have found that these sites post opinions. They never post facts. The majority of these opinions are based upon political marketing and not facts or critical thinking. For example they will state “Separation of Church and State” which is not in the Constitution and every Founding Father refuted. (I can post all of this on another thread.) Or that pro-life people are one issue voters. We are not. Abortion just happens to be so overwheming that it takes precedent. We certainly look at all issues and try to impact as many as possible. My point is that people fall for marketing gimmics by politicians instead of looking for facts. This thread has broken down to this same concept. People giving personal opinions that they can not defend. As such I am going to leave this thread. Bless all of you.
I really do like LSN most of the time. But, in light of things like the “Pope/Potter” articles, I’m always cautious. Of course, I try to be cautious when reading from any news source. So in that way, I don’t think I treat LSN any differently than any other news source.
