This article, that was on the front page of Spirit Daily today about the priest shortage, was about our parish! Well, at least partially. The priest they talked to about being stretched between 3 parishes in 3 counties, that’s us. We live between 2 of them, and drive our son in to the ‘big’ parish for school. At least we have those seminarians coming up now! 😃

I firmly believe that when a diocese starts doing God’s will, preaching from the pulpit what the faithful NEED to hear and not sugar-coating everything, then vocations will abound. As long as the clergy try to tap dance around, or outrigh ignore tough issues (abortion, same-sex marriage, artificial birth control), there will be no grace to fuel vocations to the priesthood. Pope John Paul II used to say that we need not try to correct every error. We need only teach the truth, because when we do, grace is present!

Of course - why would a young man want to give his life to a vocation that does nothing at all to demand respect?

I certainly wouldn’t want a celibate life dedicated to telling saccharine stories about people finding and serving God in their own special, unique ways. 🤷

God our Father, please send us holy priests. All for the sacred, & Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, all for the immaculate & sorrowful heart of Mary, in union with St. Joseph. Amen.

There is good news. Although right now and for the immediate future it’ll be tough, like the article said, the seminary at Conception is getting more full all the time. Bishop Finn said we have triple the number of seminarians we had three years ago.

Father Steve Cook told me they expect 7 or 8 next year to enter the seminary. Bishop Finn is a **great **inspiration so things will get better in our diocese.

Things are indeed turning around in this diocese- in so many ways. I am so thankful to be here. Hopefully the older priests can hold out until a few classes of seminarians are ordained. Jesus needed 3 years with 12 apostles- someone who isn’t divine can’t do that well. I think there should be at least 1 priest for every 3 lay people- maybe more.
