Maybe I should try her again. I love Father Corapi. I saw him this spring in St. Louis.
Sometimes those grouchy folks are the nicest ones and the ones who speak from the heart. Honestly I’ll take old Mother Angelica anyday to Marcus Grodi or that Abundant Life lady!! Somedays I think Raymond Arroyo is even too blasted perky and cutesy. I like the grumps. Maybe it says something about me! I’m a grump! :p:p

We all respond to people differently. That’s the way life goes. Father Mitch Pacwa is a hugely popular guy. I think he’s quirky and geeky and rarely answers people’s questions LOL…And Marcu Grodi drives me nuts. Honestly there aren’t a lot of people in Catholic media I like apart from Father Corapi. I used to really like that “Playboy to Priest” author and priest Father Kenneth Roberts. He used to be on EWTN. Great speaker, awesome teacher. Too bad the guy got napped molesting kids over and over!! He’s a molester! I was bummed. I liked his work on TV and books. Too bad he jumped into that stereotype!

And, I can assure you, there are many in the Catholic hierarchy who would be very pleased to see EWTN disappear.

The reason, put simply, is that EWTN is orthodox/conservative, and they are not.

Yes, at one time, we had a priest that didn’t like EWTN at all. At one time, my late wife and I were on the liturgy group at our church. We were discussing the popularity of a protestant radion station in our area, which at the time, had several anti-Catholic programs on their schedule. I inquired that why would any Catholic would listen to that station, when we had EWTN on tv and on shortwave. The priest said that he wouldn’t recommend EWTN to anyone because it was too conservative. Afterwards, I never really thought as much of this priest. It turned out later that he was in favor of woman priests and sometimes seemed to tailor the Mass prayers to suit himself. He’s gone now, and we have a super priest, probably the best priest of my lifetime. I thank God for him, and he was really great during my wifes battle with cancer.

I agree with you a 100%! I Love Mother Angelica but she was wrong for calling out Cardinal Mahony the way she did. I cant imagine saints like Francis of Assisi critizing the clergy like she did.
 
Cardinal Mayony is a good example of a bishop just BEGGING to be called out. Go Mother Angelica! His immigration beliefs make me nauscious and his participation in some bizarre liberal liturigical dancing Masses had some disturbing moments. He’s an odd character IMO.

He also was part of the sex scandal in a sad way moving around pedophile priests. That bugged me.

We do respond to different people in different ways. I don’t care for Mother Angelica’s manner, although I respect her so much. If a non-Catholic man did what she has done, he’d be Time magazine’s Man of the Year and Forbes would have glowing stories about him.

It’s time for people to start calling out Bishops. We are living through the sunset of the Church in Western civilization and the sun is setting because of wishy washy Bishops (among other things). Thank God the new coadjutor Bishop in Los Angeles is the real McCoy. The days of wine and roses out there is about to come to an end. Kumbaya is, finally, Going bye bye.

Just wanted to make sure posters were aware that this “feud” between Mother Angelica and the Bishop occured over ten years ago. Pieces of this thread have been resurrected over time and added to, some of it seems to be missing.

Mother Angelica has done more for the CC then cardinal Mahony ever has.
She brought so so so many people back to the CC catholics and converts.

Yes i understand his history and i know there is some controversy there and Cardinal Mahony bashing seems quite popular these days but this is not a democracy where we can impeach a Bishop or critize him like a president. We must humbly accept the authority of the Cardinal and pray for him. God allowed him to be bishop ( I live in the LA archdiocese) and we must respect the office he holds.
 
God also allowed Arian bishops and other heretics into the Church. God is mysterious. Nestorius, Pelagius, Donatus, and so many others were also priests and deacons. Cardinals are not infallible. And you are positively wrong when you say we can’t criticize him. You are giving this man an infallible charism and making him untouchable. No we cannot impeach him (if only! :))…Look at guys like Hans Kung. They’re Catholic clergy, and they’re WRONG on a lot of issues. Whether you live in LA or not, the guy is seriously flawed and screwed-up on theological issues IMO. And in not wanting to fight abortion in the health care bill, I believe he was immoral and a coward. Not wanting to comment on the life issue and shying away from it is cowardice and unworthy of a Catholic. Catholics are the best, strongest, most passionate defenders of life in this nation. He ought to be ashamed of himself.

We can always criticize or disagree with our bishops as long as we’re still obedient to the faith. My bishop, John Steinbock, here in the Fresno Diocese, just passed away from lung cancer. For around six months we’ll have no bishop really. I didn’t agree with Steinbock’s liberal immigration views and didn’t always like some of his statements, but ultimately I’m sad to see him pass away. He had a good heart. But I disagreed from time to time. And I don’t regret it a bit. But one thing about Steinbock, the man was 100% anti-abortion with a zeal. I like that. 👍

Whenever somebody tells me EWTN is too: stodgy, old fashioned, unreliable, heterodox (pick your description). I always say: “You know what, you may be right, maybe I should watch the NCCB bradcast station. What channel is that on again?” Of course, there isn’t one.
 
Catholic media needs a lot of work, no doubt. I love watching Father Corapi, World Over Live is respectable, marcus grodi is ok. But some of those shows are really corney and I can’t take them. Also, I can’t listen to guys like Al Cresta on the radio who regularly bash teachers. I happen to be one and half the stuff he says I’ve never experienced, taught, and can’t take seroiusly. He bashes my profession a lot so I skip past him. 🙂 But I like some of the others. Catholic Answers has a decent radio show. I’m not a Jimmy Akin fan but I like a lot of the others.

It’s incredible. It only gives ammunition to the Orthodox and Anglo-Catholics to look at that tripe and say, “and that’s why I stay where I am!” 😛 It’s an abomination. Baptists are more conservative in their worship than that fiasco! :rolleyes:
