Catholic media needs a lot of work, no doubt. I love watching Father Corapi, World Over Live is respectable, marcus grodi is ok. But some of those shows are really corney and I can’t take them. Also, I can’t listen to guys like Al Cresta on the radio who regularly bash teachers. I happen to be one and half the stuff he says I’ve never experienced, taught, and can’t take seroiusly. He bashes my profession a lot so I skip past him. 🙂 But I like some of the others. Catholic Answers has a decent radio show. I’m not a Jimmy Akin fan but I like a lot of the others.
Everybody has tastes, Barbara MacGuiggen sends me into the paroxcisms of a sugar coma and I physically can not listen to her, but the fact is both Catholic Answers and EWTN have done immensly more with modern media than all the bishops combined in the last 30 years.

Were they what you call “Praise Dancing”? I agree UNBELIEVABLE! Next…I guess it will be booty shaking. 😦
I can almost see it now: “Our opening boogie is Hooked on a Feelin’, we’ll perform the version by Blue Swede. Now step into the aisles and let’s get down!! as we celebrate how much God owes us. Our dancers today are 22 overweight, disaffected, communist ex-nuns from Malibu Beach, let’s welcome Fr. Loopy as we celebrate liturgy for him! Ooga chacka, ooga chaka, ooga, ooga, ooga chacka”

Yep. I agree. There are some shows on EWTN that make me wince from corniness. Life on the Rock and that Abundant Life show are ubercorny, IMO. Father Mitch Pacwa is a neat guy but he stalls so long, rarely answers the question, and chit-chats too much. “Hi Father Pacwa, this is Doug from Poughkeepsie, NY.” “Oh, hi Doug! Wow, Poughkeepsie!? I spent a summer there in 1961. Good times. Do they still have that little ice cream shop downtown? How about that great outdoor mall? Oh yeah. Nice springs there but the summers are so humid…uh, anyway, what’s your question?” 😛

I say we storm in dancing like mad to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck!” 😛

I would love it if someone would take up Mother’s cause 👍

I dont think it would be Raymond Arroyo or he would have done it by now but I do appreciate all his work regarding Mother Angelica tremendously
Hey, she’s not deceased yet, we shouldn’t be talking of ‘causes’ until she is!

The Cardinal’s recent performance when asked about abortion in the health care bill (“way beyond my field”), did not help in his defense. Just Google “Cardinal Mahoney abortion” and the problematic areas pop up right and left.

He simply states that he does not know whether the health care bill funds abortion as his focus as regards politics has been immigration. He even says that he is against funding of abortion in that clip.

This may be slightly OT, but this is my favorite “Mother Angelica Story.” And it comes from a time when I wasn’t even part of Holy Mother Church.

I still remember the whole “Last Temptation” controversy twenty years ago. And I still remember Mother raging about it on a TV Press Conference-----

(All but Screaming)—
“It (the movie) made Him into a Wimp!!! They made Christ into a Wishy Washy Wimp!!!”:p:D

For some reason, that has stayed with me over the decades. At the time I thought “What A Wacky Old Broad.” Now, of course, I see she was coming from a place of Righteous Outrage and Truth. And she WAS right about the Movie. 🙂

I agree with you, Gurney. Cantankerous Old Coot, but a Definite Saint Nevertheless. God Bless Her and her Mission. 👍

Probably the greatest influence on my conversion (on a temporal level) was EWTN and in part Mother Angelica herself.

Some Catholics around me dont like her because they are very liberal and dont like that she says things the way they are. A very few think that Mother Angelica is too liberal lol

(Hey more power to them but considering my how liberal my area is those people consider to be the super traditionalists are the medium of other areas)

I am a recent convert (2007) so the controvery was really before my time, all I have known about Mother Angelica is great and I love EWTN. Of course as with any Catholic organizaiton, group, ministry, etc… the very SECOND it departs from loyally teaching the orthodox Roman Catholic teachings then im out.

I like Mother Angelica too. It is a shame that she was forced off her own TV station (EWTN) that she founded. If you ever have any free time, read the book EWTN: A Network Gone Wrong. Although EWTN states Mother stopped appearing because of her strokes, it goes deeper then that, she was long gone before the stokes started.

I enjoy watching EWTN when they do auto-biographies of many of the Saints. I also enjoying watching Mass. I like Mr. Aryko too. (I think I spelled his name incorrectly).

To me it seems the problem has more to do with a non-understanding priest not willing to practice patience and not any feud with Mother Angelica!

*This thread is about liking Mother Angelica. It took me a little while. I didn’t like some of her body language but I recognise that she is marvellous. Look at the fruit! Look at her achievements! Man!!!

I find it difficult to watch Corapi. I think he sometimes talks too much about Corapi and his achievements! I know that he knows his stuff but… I love The World Over. I love Marcus Grodi. I love EWTN. Yes I have overlooked some things. We can’t watch everything. But when the other networks produce a lot of junk I always turn to EWTN.

I think we can safely say that we can count on EWTN.

*MacGuiggen may know her stuff but she is so gushy, treacle… her body language makes me look away. Maybe she is better on radio. Just as long as I don’t look at her!!! It is nauseating.

*I don’t think you are being fair about Rock and Abundant Life. There are many good shows. Rock is for teens mainly but I still watch. Johnette’s hair gets me but she is bright and articulate and makes sense. As for Pacwa, I like him but what gets me is “Where are you from?” Arkansas. “GREAT”! It grates me I can’t stand his Great responses!!! Otherwise he is fine. A little chat now and then is OK too but GREAT???

*I was once liberal and revolutionary and during that time I was out of the Church (something I regret deeply). Today I am an orthodox Catholic (thank you EWTN) and I am still a little revolutionary (certainly against the status quo). Yes, EWTN is so very special. Mother Angelica is spunky, direct and lovable. What a treasure!

I hate gushiness but if I don’t stop here I will get gushy.

Thank you, thank you Mother Anglica!

I have never seen her on EWTN. I only have heard her on Catholic radio. I usually turn it to classical radio when she’s on. But Mother Angelica is wonderful!😉

*I saw her on EWTN yesterday - an old programme. She was nice and slim and attractive and appeared closer to normal. Otherwise she looks at people she interviews adoringly and gushes which is off putting. How does this translate on radio? I am in Africa and have no access to the radio programmes.

It is a pity as she is smart.

Cheers

On radio, she comes off as being phony, fake. I’m not the only one in my family that feels that way.

*This is a pity because I believe she is sincere and smart and knowledgeable but her body language and intonation needs correction and she should be told.

I think if I were in her position I would appreciate it if someone told me. But this has been going on for a long time!!! What a pity because she loses credibility.

I love her and thank God for her.
Wish there were more like her. So few and far between.
