Did you know? Crazy talk is a common ingredient for comedy. 👍
Not to get off the subject, but are you implying that freemasons are crazy?
There are MANY lawyers.doctors.law enforcement and military personnel in masonic orders,

Given that someone already asked you to cite your source but not provided the link, I would say there’s only one crazy person in this conversation and it’s not me. 😉

Ad Hominem attacks are generally used when someone has no other way to defend a view. M Mayo did not specify which source he was seeking.the one regarding a yoga teacher and her experience with the twitchings and involuntary movements called kriyas(VERY common in those seeking to open their “third eye”} or the seething energies of Lucifer taken from “The Lost Keys of Freemasonry”,a masonic text.

In the ancient tradition of chakras each energy point or portal has a presiding deity. These 7 points are nothing more than locations of endocrine glands and nerve plexuses. By focusing thoughts and FAITH in these “wheels of energy” one is cracking the door open to Lucifer the supposed “light bearer”.

It is no coincidence that the Holy Bible states that Jesus cast 7 demons from Mary Magdalen. What he in essence was doing was casting out the demonic entities and closing the doors to a deceptive practice that had her in bondage. The seven chakras of the kundalini are nothing more than demonic portals to the kingdom of Lucifer(prince of the power of the air) which is a counterfeit to the actual Kingdom of God which Jesus spoke of.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with yoga as most Americans/Westerners practice it.

What makes you think a Masonic text, of all things, is a reliable source?
Are you a Mason?

On wow. This thread has so many questions and thoughts running through my head right now but I’m not sure were to begin with them all.

I guess for starters, cjforJesus, did you know that even in Catholic asceticism Eastern and Western, poor souls have been lead astray, tricked, fooled, and I would even go so far as to say possessed by Lucifer to their own seemingly ruin or demise?

From the readings that people have shared on these forums of St. John and St. Theresa they warn consistently of how one can be tricked. In the Philokalia by St. Nikodimos of the Holy Mountain and St. Makarios of Corinth I read of this happening.
So I don’t see one being possessed by demons through working on acquired contemplation as being solely coming through other ancient practices of asceticism.

In my understanding the Catholic Church has the Complete Truth of what the purpose of contemplation and and quiet prayer the ascetic life is for and yes I do believe other forms of asceticism, some of which you speak of, and lead one to the fullness of this Truth if followed with a sincere heart of always seeking out the Truth. God works to save us through so much I would not but it past Him if He is leading them to the Fullness of the Truth of Asceticism that we have deposited in the Catholic Church through their ancient ascetic practices.

But what leaves one open to becoming possessed would be, to me, ones intent. And that is in any form or practice of asceticism.

Anyway just adding some food for thought here. Maybe I’m way off base here but I don’t think so, so I hope I have explained what I am seeing here well enough that it makes some sense.

On the contrary this new age practice is even infiltrating the public school system under the guise of exercise and promoting relaxation. Pictures posted on one site show children on their desks with their legs crossed and their hands in a specific yoga posture with thumb touching middle finger. How is this considered mere "exercise or stretching?

You say “working on acquired contemplation”. The contemplation you speak of is a GIFT from God and cannot be acquired through specific techniques. On the other hand the kundalini of yoga is NOT the same as contemplative spirituality at all and can be achieved through specific breathing and exercise techniques as well as through the touch of a guru(shaktipat)

We do have to prepare ourselves to receive the gift. You’ll know that if you’ve read St. John of the Cross.

Are those children photographed for that one site the “most Americans/Westerners” to which I referred? Must have been a HUGE photo.

and even that is a gift from God too.

CjforJesus, Michael Mayo post a link to another thread earlier on this thread that might be very relevant to understanding this.

When I read *Nostra Aetate *and Crossing the Threshold of Hope, where the Council fathers and St. Pope John Paul II directly address the Eastern religions we are discussing here, I see no mention of the sinister, diabolical dangers I am learning about in this thread. Why is that?

The danger is syncretism and embracing new age ideas. The Holy Father said once you are no longer focused on Jesus it is no longer prayer.

As far a St John of the Cross, yes I understand him and he was quite adamant that people avoid seeking spiritual experiences.MOst of his writings as well as St Teresa of Avila were directed to nuns and monks leading VERY ascetic lives.

“prepare yourselves to receive the gift”? The Holy Spirit was given to us at Baptism and at Confirmation the gifts and charisms are bestowed just as at Pentecost. Not all people utilize their gifts and talents given by the Holy Spirit, but nevertheless God is patient loving and merciful.

Preparing to receive the gifts involves much study before Confirmation and RCIA.

I think it’s pretty clear, due to the skepticism towards your apparent lack of citation, you are not in any position to declare what’s an ad hom or not.

And quite frankly, the mere fact you consider the practice of clearing your head to be a demonic practice makes me wonder if you even sleep at all.

Would you like me to provide a link to the pictures? I figured most people could just google it and tons of images would be displayed.

Clearing your head is not demonic and I don’t know when I said that. I quoted St Teresa as saying that contemplation is a fixed gaze at Jesus our Savior. Contemplation and kundalini arousal are two VERY different things. I asked a contemplative Carmelite monk about this once.
