The Trappist at Spencer Abbey now make beer, Spencer Ale.

Best beer I’ve had, but expensive. $17.95 for four bottles.

The also continue to make their jams, jellies and vestments for Mass.

Jim

That’s not true yoga,Jim,that is exercising.True yoga has one goal and that is to yoke the practitioner with an unknown force
But, if one has their life centered around Christ the force is no longer “unknown”.

I do not believe that to be true because God is not some impersonal force that resides in our bottoms and can be coaxed out through exercise and breathing techniques. That just is absurd. This unknown force can also be supposedly aroused using a “left hand path” involving ritualistic sodomy, and sex with someone already awakened! NOT FROM GOD,in my opinion.

Do you work hard at seemingly deliberately trying to miss the point or does it come so naturely you don’t even recognize or see that you are doing it?🙂

Let me see if I can explain better what I am trying to say.

To me, you are describing someone doing yoga who does not have thier Life centered around Christ and so the “force” is “unknown” and because of our fallen condition they twist it and influence it with thier sinfulness or allow themselves to be influenced by demonic forces to get the results you are speaking of.
If one does yoga with Christ centered in thier lives the force is known and one will not be so susceptible to influence it with thier fallen brokenness or demonic forces and will not get the results you are speaking of.

I believe God’s Grace will work in us through yoga just like His Grace works in us through out our every day lives. I beleive that when our lives are centered around Him it will influence the effects of His Grace in us and we will be able to see better and recognize and come to know this force and will not allow our broken sinfulness influence and twist it like you seem to be describing. In short, to me anyway, you are describing someone who is doing yoga without thier lives centered around Christ.

Anyway I’m just kind of sharring my rambling thoughts on this. As always I hope it makes some sence.

I suppose it is dangerous to wear a toga outside if you live in an area with subzero temperatures. What does that have to do with yoga?
Nothing except that it rhymes. Just ‘ego’ checking to see that my posts were showing up on the thread. 😉

Simple,I sort of understand what you are saying, but I do not believe God is an impersonal force. Thats way too “Star Wars” and theologically incorrect from a Christian perspective.

I also think that doing stretches and body positions for fitness is Ok,but focusing on chakras and serpent powers and such would be very wrong for a Catholic.

Well, I do believe that if one has Christ centered in thier lives then they must have a personal relationship with Him so I do not see how it could be considered an impersonal force.
As an aside to it being too Star Wars for you and being a Star Wars fan myself I never took The Force I believe you are referring to as being impersonal. I thought it was portrayed as being a very living force full of life and emotion. Bothe good and bad being portrayed as Light and Darkness. But I won’t go into details on this thread as to why so as not to derail the thread.

I’m not totally sure I agree with this. I really do beleive, and I am not sure if I could explain it well, that Mysticism is very real. The first time I heard about it was from a self professed Mystic. I just took it to mean that they thought about things like God and our relationship with Him and with each other. I never really looked at the specifics of it and really did not understand it. It was not untill I came to CAF and learned about St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross and I beleive it is St. John Demascas and the Lader of. Divine Ascent that. I finally understood or got an idea of what this person was referring to. So this is how I got my understanding of how we can start our Divine Ascent but the more Centered it is around Jesus Christ, God the more clearly we will understand or get the fullness of Truth as to what and who The Force is and how we relate to Him. Chakras, to me anyway, seems like it is some ones attempt to explain the Ladder of Divine ascent or St. Teresa’s Mansions without being centered on Christ. So can one take this practice of chakras and center it around Christ? I do beleive that through His Grace they could. But in doing this I also beleive one might be “creating” or “coming up” with something deeper than it started out as so it may not even be considered Yoga anymore.🙂

The obsession with mysticism in our modern culture is very disturbing. St John of the Cross said people seeking a mystical experience may find it because lucifer is ever willing to try to mimic God. God is NOT an impersonal force and you must have a personal relationship with Jesus to understand this. What you seem to be leaning toward is pantheistic.

Jesus said to follow him and obey the commandments. It is simple and does not require any complicated poses or breathing techniques/ Do you actually realize that St Teresas and St JOhns writings were for religious monks and nuns? Many people twist those writings to fit a preconceived notion.I would love to meet someone who has read the “The Way of Perfection” and actually practiced it.No friendships, minimal family contact and such. These writings were meant for ascetics . I asked a contemplative carmelite about them and he said the saints probably would not even recognize these writings anymore. He stressed obedience.staying in communion with the Church and the Sacraments.

CjforJesus, do you always try to twist what people tell you they believe into what you project onto them to be believing?

Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life.no one comes to the Father except through me”. There is nothing in these words about yoga or mysticism or serpent powers hiding in our spine.

Take up your cross and follow Him.Accept the suffering and pain in your life without becoming angry or blaming God. Love you neighbor as yourself and always treat others as you would want to be treated.

Yoga for exercise is not really yoga,True yoga is an attempt at the practitioner to invite a serpent into their bodies.Sounds a bit like what happened in Genesis does it not? When this serpent is allowed in it can cause severe damage and psychosis according to Carl Jung.
The catechism warns about this and says that it will be the sign of antichrist when man worships himself instead of God.

No simple,I am just repeating what you seem to believe: That God has a light and dark side. That is not true because in Him there is NO darkness at all, The belief in an impersonal source or force is pantheistic. You go as far as to capitalize this force too, making it a kind of deity.

Repeating yourself to try and keep what you are projecting onto others what you beleive they beleive to make it “seem” real to you or others instead of listening to others to learn or understand what they really truly do beleive is not helping you understand what they are trying to help you understand. Or is that it? You have no desire to understand do you because some how you are convinced that you really do know better than them what they do or do not beleive? You know they have a name for that kind of thing. It’s called Gas Lighting. I know about it because it was how I was raised. I was taught that if someone said and did a,b, and c that it means they believe x,y, and z. Well guess what? I have been waking up to the reality that they were wrong and in a lot of cases a,b, and c actually means they beleive in l, m, n, o, and p.

I most sincerely do hope and pray some day you will understand.

In the mean time may. God. Bless you and keep you safe and may you always know you are in the Palm of His hand.

May God bless you also, simple.and thank you for the interesting chat. Please stay with the Church though and do not get discouraged.

I have no inclinations though to allow a serpent to arise from within and possess me.Sorry,I believe in free will and the Holy Spirit does not posses but proposes the will of God and allows us to chose.

Mysticism is a RARE gift from God which I believe very few experience. It is NOT something to be coveted or desired but accepted in humility if given,.

Oh my goodness. I don’t know how you got the impression I was ever even considering leaving the Church but thank you for the advice and encouragement.🙂

You are right that Mysticism is a gift from God and so is leading a spiritual and holy life. I beleive the more people have thier lives Centered around Jesus Christ the more they would see and understand this.😉

Amen! I agree with that 100%.See,I am not so difficult after all. 😉

his happened in the whole history of evolution. The species that could not survive were rejected, thrown out and they died. They ended. Similarly, the case with men. If, at a certain level of evolution, they are not able to proceed forward then the reaction is that they are degenerated and then they end themselves. They no longer evolve. They are then as a backwards species now, as backward human beings. And this has happened throughout. One nation went forward, then failed to maintain the pace, another nation came forward, threw it back and subjugated it, and for some time exploited it.

We have the same phenomenon going on even at this time. If, now mankind does not become aware of the needs of the evolutionary progress that she is maintaining at present, on the one hand and on the other hand, rejects the scriptural directions, then this collective consciousness of the race will come into operation. And, already, men who have to take a decisive role in the forthcoming disastrous war have been born, with the mental equipment that will allow them to gain the place of precedence-the place of power-that will result in the ferment about which I am speaking. But at the same time, natural powers will also come into operation not to allow the damage to exceed a certain level, because it is a planned creation. It is a designed creation. Only the actors, the places of action, and the time in which the drama is played, they are all so colossal and stupendous that we cannot see the links-we cannot understand the purpose because we are living behind a curtain. For instance, at the present moment, those men who have to play a decisive role in the COMING SLAUGHTER, or in the coming wars, are already among us, at a young age. They are already, as in the French revolution or in the Russian revolution or in the German revolution-recent revolutions-everything that happened had a purpose behind it. But it is such a vast purpose, and the whole cosmos is involved in it, that we cannot try to rationalize it-to look at it from an intellectual point of view. We have to accept it as something which is beyond our intellectual power. But from an intuitional point of view, it is obvious that there will occur events, catastrophes, geophysical events, and wars, that will, within the course of these twenty years, turn mankind in another direction from the direction she is pursuing at present." Gopi Krishna

Gopi Krishna prophesied that the new world order would be in place by the year 2000. So the slaughter of millions of Jews and others was for a higher purpose? That is absurd and offensive and the idea that military leaders are already poised to slaughter millions very concerning

And supposedly this “evolutionary progress” is under the direction of a force called kundalini which all geniuses and intellectuals have. Yoga is the way to activate this force and is probably why the current society and culture so adamantly promote it and extole its virtues.

If I have a sore muscle, and then through trial and error develop a stretch that is therapeutic to the sore muscle, but that stretch happens to exactly mimic a yoga pose, have I brought a demon into my body? Or what happens if my movements in sleep leave me unknowingly in a dreaded yoga pose?

…sorry…just kidding. I couldn’t resist. I would rather learn about the process in which suspension of one’s egoistic thought processes creates a spiritual vacuum with the business end of the hose in Hell.
