Priest fired for porn may have protected confession

It seems likely that a Pittsburgh priest would not exonerate himself because this would involve saying what he heard in confession. Priests are not allowed to tell anyone what they have heard in confession for any reason. The priest was fired from his school job, and he could be put on trial and dismissed from his order. But now it has come out that a student at the priest’s school has told police and canonical investigators, and finally the Pittsburgh daily newspaper, that he had downloaded pornography onto the priest’s computer, which was later found there, and got the priest in trouble. The student told the priest in confession that he put pornography onto the priest’s computer.

Oh my goodness. If this is true and the student did this and admitted to it I hope the priest is exonerated.

The story is at least plausible. Priest or not is moot, if an injustice has occurred let’s hope it is corrected.
 
That’s terrific–the priest did what he was supposed to do, despite the terrible effect on him, and the actual person who did it acted honorably and confessed to what he’d done.
 
If this is true… wow this is a great man. I’m sure he’ll be rewarded greatly in heaven.
 
Sounds like the plot of Alfred Hitchcock’s “I Confess”, except with porn instead of murder.
 
I’d be willing to bet any amount of $$ the boys story will be completely discounted and the priest will sit in prison.
 
One good priest!

Myself I would want to scream out and blame the culprit, but he kept to the seal of confession and could not name him, even in the face of his whole life going downhill.
