NEW HAVEN, Conn. - A former priest who stole about $1.3 million from his parish to support a life of luxury was sentenced Tuesday to 37 months in prison. The Rev. Michael Jude Fay also was ordered to pay $1 million in restitution.
Fay, who pleaded guilty to a federal fraud charge in September, set up secret bank accounts to pay for travel around the world and to buy a condominium, authorities have said.
In a courtroom apology, the 56-year-old Fay said his mistakes have brought shame to his parishioners, his family and his friends.

I also saw this on the news. Things like this are embarrassing to the Church, but priests are only human and we’re all sinners.

It is sad and embarassing. He was one of the priests in my home parish where I grew up. I didn’t know him well though.

Mistakes??? I would say crimes and sin, not mistakes

A mistake is something you didn’t intend to happen, and error in thinking, not flouting the 10 commandments and civil laws

That is just what is wrong in society in general ,no one owns up to being a sinner or a crook, they just used faulty judgment…😦

Reminds me of “Father Ted,”

" That money was just resting in my account!"

Now the prisoners will have someone to say Mass for them everyday. There actually could be a lot of benefit to it.

His name is Michael Jude so I would guess he comes from a Faithful family; what shame he has brought on them.

Keep this poor man (priest) in prayer. He will need them more than you know.
