Not necessarily. In this case its morally neutral since an individual can appoint anybody. Thus in and of itself it doesn’t actually recognize the relationship.
Wouldn’t that also be true of civil unions? That is, wouldn’t a person be able to enter into a civil union with pretty much anyone? If so, then would civil unions between homosexuals be acceptable to the priest?

Doesn’t the fact that a durable power of attorney is involved, make this a “legal recognition” issue? That is, if two homosexuals have set up this agreement with the attorney, isn’t that a matter of the state recognizing the relationship between these two homosexuals?
All unrelated individuals have to go through the same legal procedure whether they engage in homosexual behavior or not. And related individuals, married or not, are fools if they don’t obtain POAs and medical drectives

Good to know that you are not against “all and any” government attempts to “legalize” homosexual unions.

You can’t enter into a civil union with your brother or sister…

It is good that this priest has spoken out against homosexual acts! Kudos to him! 👍

May God bless Fr. Michael Rodriguez, clearly a holy and charitable priest.

Same sex marriage has been recognized in some states for several years and nothing bad has happened to the rest of society because of it. Isn’t this hot issue in the Church going about the same way the opposition to divorce and artificial birth control have gone - officially condemned but accepted by the majority of Catholics in practice?

It ihas done immeasurable damage to those who’s sin if affirmed and to the culture where grievous sin and disordered sexual behavior is normalized.

It doesn’t matter how many Catholics accept sinful behavior-it is still sinful.

So you are against “all and any” forms of legal recognition of homosexual relationships?
yes. i am. if you like and approve such, it is your problem but Catholics are not to accept or be involved in such a thing.
Catholics have a duty with God and not with man.

While I agree with him, I would rather this be preached from the pulpit.
Although I can not say for sure since I have never attended a mass at his church, I suspect that he addresses such issues in his homilies, as well as via op-eds in the newspaper. It would be strange to take a public stance in the secular press yet not say the same to the parish whose care he has been entrusted.

The True Catholic Church, not being a democracy, is more interested in teaching moral truth and leading souls to salvation, regardless of what the majority thinks or wishes.

Although I couldn’t find an official parish website, I did find a site which has a brief biography of Fr. Rodriguz. It also has links to recordings of his most recent sermons (yes, 20 minutes long!) and a wealth of other talks by him.

A scan of the most recent parish bulletin (a mixture of Spanish and English) is available.

And if anyone cares to watch a 60 second, edited video of him at Mass on Pentecost:

:)You can also find some of Fr.Michael Rodriguez’s sermons on GloriaTV.com. If you listen to his sermons, you will find that he teaches the true Catholic faith without any modern, liberal (and confusing) slant. You can also view a number of his sermons on the internet at http//gallery.me.com/thecheckfamily#gallery

If you review the parish bulletin, you will notice that he has an extremely busy schedule; full of Catholic teaching, the Sacraments (two Masses a day, Confession five days a week) Holy Hour and Adoration three times per week, and Stations of the Cross every Friday. We all need to pray for him.

We are truly blessed to have such a devoted and holy priest who can talk the talk and is willing to walk the walk. And by the way, he doesn’t own a computer, cell phone, or a television.

We need more like him.

We sure do need more like him. God bless him. Thank you for the link.

In light of all the insanity that has gone on in NY’s St. Francis Xavier parish, I plan to send Fr.'s article on active homosexuality to Archbishop Dolan.
