"Priest set alight by man during mass in church

AN assailant has sprayed a Roman Catholic priest with flammable liquid and set him alight during mass in a church in Lithuania, police in the Baltic state say.

Father Remigijus Kuprys, 46, managed to extinguish the flames with the help of worshippers, but suffered facial burns."…

How horrible. 😦 Thank God that the parishioners helped Father to put out the flames. It seems that the assailant was mentally disturbed since he had disturbed other masses in the past. I pray that the assailant get the treatment that he needs and that Father recover from his burns quickly.

God bless

There is no sense in wasting time and money on psychiatrists and lenghty diagnostics. He should go to jail and serve his sentence. This act wasn’t some mere accident or I didn’t know any better. Its beyond that and be treated as such.

If this happened in the U.S., the ACLU would be defending him on free speech rights.

Praying for the rapid and complete recovery of Fr. Kuprys.

Almighty and Everlasting God,
The eternal salvation of those who believe in You,
hear us on behalf of Father Remigijus Kuprys
who has suffered facial burns.
For him, we humbly beg the help of your mercy,
so that, being resorted to health,
he may render thanks to you in your Church.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen!

Very sad, and most likely, true. This is a disgusting act, but only our country could get way with the free speech defense. I hope this person gets whatever help he needs, be in jail, or counseling, or whatever. I also pray for the priest to have a speedy recovery…

Firat of all I don’t want to detract in any way from those expressing their upset, which I share, about this crime. But those bearing false witness against free speech advocates have it quite wrong. It is the priest and the parishioners whose rights to free speech were attacked, and I am quite sure that the ACLU would see it that way. And for those who seem to think it is easy to get away without punishment in ‘our country’, by which I guess the posters mean ‘their country’, the USA: the United states imprisons massively more people, for longer, than any other democratic developed nation (and quite a few of the others also). Just Google ‘imprisonment rates’. Oh, and executes more too.

Not to detract form the topic at hand, but many criminals also get way with crimes or get lighter sentences than they deserve. And personally, I feel that the US in quite anti-Catholic, and there would be many supporting the man who committed this horrible crime. Bt thise are topics to be discussed elsewhere… Again, I pray for all involved.

That is an objectionable comment that will be allowed here for some reason I can not understand.

Defend your position that the ACLU would defend free speech in this manner or apologize and amidt you made a very outrageous statement. Or, don’t respond and let the viewer see the rampant emotional dumping ground without fact that goes on here.

Who is supprorting this man?

It’s far better to feed into the persecution complex to ignore those facts.

You need to explain your commentary. Why do you feel this way and what is it based on?

What does the church say about those who are mentally disturbed that commit such an act? Perhaps you as a catholic need to think about that, and explain it to everyone clearly.

Let’s hope he gets the best medical care he can get now. That is the most practical thing on the table now.

Wow. How horrid! I hope and pray that he recovers quickly. Why on earth would someone ever do such a horrendous act??? Do people have no shame???
