From what I’ve read about their handling of the abuse reports, it seems to me that the perverts and many of their bishops believe they’re above such things.
Wow. What a lack of charity.

Here is what I know:

In my state, there are five clergy who are incarcerated in the state penitentiary for a sex crime (rape of an adult or various illegal sexual contacts with a person under the age of 16). Not one of the criminals so incarcerated are Catholic Priests. Not a single one of the crimes made the front page of the paper and there were no public recriminations of their ecclesiastical superiors. And there was not a single civil lawsuit against their denomination or congregations.

I don’t know if it is Anti-Catholic discrimination or that the public has higher expectations of Catholic Priests and thus their transgressions are considered more egregious.

Wow, what a perversion of “charity”. Charity for our many perverts in cassocks is demonstrated by fair justice and humane treatment, and prayers for their contrite forgiveness…not some twisted notion of sympathy. The concealment and enabling of perverts by OUR CHURCH INSTITUTIONS in the name of “charity” is no less an affront to Christ’s teaching than the underlying perversions. At least some of the pervs can claim mentally illness. Here in LA, our Cardinal still fights ongoing abuse investigations. Why? A good shepard protects his flock, not the wolves.

Your score keeping says much. What matter is it that clergy from other faiths are guilty too? NONE! What difference that their crimes recieved less press? NONE! This isn’t a PR war. This is about the rape of children by far too many of OUR priests who were knowingly protected by OUR bishops. The most anti-Catholic act of all is to permit these predators and enablers the shield of Church. Your form of blind charity is available only to those with no reponsibility.

Who knows how much of Foley’s future proclivity came from this? Your hatred of the man seems to have blinded you to the issue.
The “abuse excuse”.
Foley is a grown (WAY grown!) man.
He could have sought help on these issues long ago rather than waiting to be “outed” by the press years later.
I DID NOT claim (re-read my post and do not put words in my mouth!) that the boy was to blame.
I said, the priest and Foley both did wrong. And they did.
And, also, do not infer that I “hate” anyone or am blind.
Your post was uncharitable, inflamatory and not true.

If you are suggesting that a child who is assaulted by a predator as done wrong then it is pointless to try to reason with you. By implication a girl who is raped as done wrong since she also takes part in the act. It is really sad to see that some people will go to such lengths to avoid admitting the truth, namely that the clergy has some rotters who do immense harm to the image of the Church.

I believe what he was trying to say is that the priest did wrong, in the relationship with foley. this is true.

He was saying foley did wrong, not in the relationship with the priest, but in his later relationships with various young male pages. this is true.

He is not saying that the priest forced foley to behave in such a way, for probably, this priest was abused too. Where does the blame lie when actions take place far after what likely started them. I would say that there is some blame to be placed on the priest for what he did to foley, but not all of it. Foley has responsibility in this too.

A lone Raven

"Mercieca said although Foley plans to “expose him to the world,” he still has “great memories of our trips,” the newspaper reported.

“I wish him well,” Mercieca said. “Let bygones be bygones.”
Wow! The criminal forgives his victim. How kind of him.:tsktsk:

Still, that doesn’t justify Foley’s acts, and resignation is the right thing for him to do.
