Priestly celibacy isn’t a matter of faith or morality. It is a matter of discipline. As such, Priestly celibacy is neither theologically sound or theologically faulty. Priestly celibacy has both it’s good points and bad points. The lack of priestly celibacy has both good and bad points. The only real argument for or against priestly celibacy is the following:Although I am not fundamentally opposed to marriage in the priesthood, I recently heard an argument FOR the practice that I found very troubling. I wonder if anyone could give me some direction on arguments either for the intuition of this practice or opposing it that would be considered by the Church to be theologically sound ( I mean beyond the fact that St. Peter and some of the other apostles may have been married during their ministry)?
Thanks!
Papa said so, therefore it must be so.
