Only 16 men are entering the seminary in Ireland this year-- down from 39 in 2009, and over 150 during the average year in the 1980s. Ireland currently has 99 seminarians, while England …

Ireland currently has 99 seminarians, while England and Wales have 150.
Actually that’s pretty much in proportion to the sizes of their Catholic populations, 3.7 million and 5.2 million respectively.
 
Is anyone surprised?

The only thing I´m surprised at is that we have 99 seminarians.
 
I don’t think that there’s a difference in Ireland between standard and “traditional” seminaries.

There used to be far more seminarians in Ireland than in the UK.

Ireland used to be overflowing with priestly vocations, which they regularly exported as ordained priests to the rest of the world.

No longer.
