Rome, Nov 8, 2007 / 02:43 pm (CNA).- Despite promises from the government, priests and religious who serve or should serve in Israel continue to face many obstacles in obtaining visas that allow them to remain legally in the country.

Pope John Paul had it right when he advocated Jerusalem be an “Open City” so that ALL faiths would have access to the holy sites. That way there would be no obstacles to worship and visit sacred shrines.

Jerusalem should not be controlled by a government that restricts this freedom. Jerusalem belongs to ALL the people of God.
