Park Street station is one of the busiest T stops, and it is in the heart of downtown Boston. Learning about this makes me even more proud to be a Catholic.
It is a very good thing - I agree - to be out there and visible in such a positive way; and remember that this priest was not the only one. Ashes to Go is quite ecumenical; there were clergy and laity from all denominations out on the streets.

Totally disagree with this. It’s one thing to bring ashes to those who can’t make it to church. It’s entirely another thing to bring ashes to those who just can’t be bothered with going for Ash Wednesday mass.
The Franciscan Friars in downtown Boston give ashes all day in the downstairs chapel. There is a continuous stream of people getting ashes. You don’t need to go to mass to receive ashes. I walked down at lunch and got ashes said a quick prayer and was back at work by the end of lunch. Some people don’t have time for daily mass. I saw more people than I could have imagined with ashes, it was like Boston was suddenly a Catholic town again. I liked it, it made me happy and hopeful.

Is that chapel still in the Prudential Center ?

Yes. It’s currently run by the Oblates of the Virgin Mary (they are at Saint Clement Eucharistic Shrine on Boylston). I don’t know the history but the Friars passed it on to them at some point.

They have adoration in the afternoon and all day confession and padded seats!! It’s a really nice chapel with a nice little bookstore if anybody is visiting Boston.

I didn’t know they had a shrine at the Prudential Center.

They have a shrine at Downtown Crossing behind the old Fileens by Gold’s Gym. (At least I think it is the Franciscans.)

It was key in bringing me back to the Church. A friend told me about it, and I used to stop there and spend 15 minutes with God when I had the time. Fast forward 10 years and I returned to the Church and am active in an Adoration Chapel at my Church.

It was perfect for me during the stage of my life where I had a personal relationship with God but rejected the ceremony and the need of a formal Church. It gave me peace and a respite from the stress and chaos of daily existence.

If it wasn’t for that Chapel, I don’t know if I would have ever returned to the Catholic Church. That Chapel will always have a special place in my heart. Just thinking about it makes my stress melt away.

I visited the chapel at the Prudential Center, back in 2001.

It was run by the Franciscans then, and it is where John Kerry and his wife, attended Sunday Mass when he was home.
