A priests’ group, called The Voice of the Ordained, has asked Rockville Centre Bishop William Murphy and members of Voice of the Faithful to meet with a mediator.
Murphy is one of a handful of bishops nationwide who have banned Voice of the Faithful from meeting on church property.
The group is highly critical of the bishop. It called for his resignation saying he helped shield abusive priests in Boston when he was top deputy to Cardinal Bernard Law – an accusation he vehemently denies. Past efforts to negotiate a rapprochement failed.
