Your neighbours in West Norwood were misinformed. The only member of the Royal Family to get anything like a salary is the Duke of Edinburgh, who gets a “parliamentary grant”. Part of the Royal Family expenses comes from a proportion of the Crown Estate, the rest from the hereditary and private wealth of the Queen.
From whom did she and her ancestors acquire all that private wealth? I don’t think the Royal Family, even way back when, were pirates who buried more than several treasure chests.

I doubt my friends were misinformed. I probably misunderstood them, not being English or even a native English speaker. I know they were not monarchists. And they weren’t my neighbors! They were in West Norwood, a London neighborhood; I was in Leatherhead in the Surrey countryside. I went to London, and any of its boroughs, as seldom as possible. Not fond of large cities.

No, she will not be Catherine, Princess of Wales. She will be The Princess of Wales. She does have what you call the prefix, because she is Princess William.
I know Princess Anne refused royal titles for her husbands and children. But had she not, then would her husband have been Prince Anne?

I do know Baroness Marie Christine is known as Princess MIchael of Kent. She’s always talking about how poor the family is! Once she said, “We’ll go anywhere for a hot meal!”

I fear the traditional sexism would have prevented a “Prince Anne”, but it’s a nice idea.

Nay, you declare that those who get to Heaven do it in spite of their religion!
Christ established a Church.

He told us the way to get to heaven is through the Sacraments of that Church. If we keep up our end of the deal (receiving the Sacraments, being part of His Church) He has promised us Heaven.

It is sort of like the driving from the Baltic Sea to the Sea of Japan. I can follow the Trans Siberian Highway using the official maps and know that I will make it to my destination.

I can also just take of driving where there is no highway with no map, no GPS, no directions, simply looking at the sun to determine the direction and going. If I make it to the Sea of Japan, I will get there in spite of my ignoring the established route.

And the Russian police! 😀

the “royal” family should re-destribute their “wealth” amongst the common tax-payers of the UK; since their “estates” are based largely on stolen property from whenst England had an empire

the American freedom fighters in 1781 at Yorktown knocked imperialist thoughts out of their heads, once & for all

and forced UK back to junior varsity status a world-power (where they belong)

You mean all property is theft? Yes, I think I’ve heard that idea before.

Shouldn’t all opinions be respected? Even if we differ? Obviously, he doesn’t like the royal family. I’m no monarchist myself and think it’s terribly outdated, but I respect the individual royal family members as persons (or don’t respect some of their actions). I think QEII genuinely desires to serve the UK, whereas I don’t approve of Harry and Meg living together in sin before marriage, etc., etc.

Do you know how many years Prince William and Kate lived together before marrying?
Many years.
Prince Harry and Megan’s courtship is relatively short compared to William and Kate.

A very odd post.
I don’t find it any more odd than the US paying reparations to the descendants of slaves. Should the US sell the estates of those who were slave owners and distribute the money to the descendants of slaves? We can’t change the past. We just have to learn from it and move forward in a better manner. I think QEII is trying to do that with Harry, allowing him to marry a mixed race (and no, I’m not racist, but the RF prefers “their own”), divorced American and even live with her prior to marriage. Would not surprise me if she were pregnant before the wedding! I think QEII saw the destruction of lives, primarily Diana’s, when she didn’t allow Charles to marry Camilla when young, and really, who would have cared? I applaud her for being so flexible in her 90s, too! I don’t applaud living together prior to marriage for anyone, though, but it’s not my problem.

Yes, I do, and I disapprove of that just as much, but two wrongs don’t make a right. Living in sin is living in sin. There is no “wiggle room” unless they are living as brother and sister, which I highly doubt. Fornication is fornication. Whether the sinful relationship is long or short is irrelevant.

I don’t know anything about the current living situation of the Prince and his fiancee.
I know their wedding is only 4-5 months away.

Yes, they’re getting married in May. Traditionally, all the Royals have short engagements.

Like I said, fornication is fornication, whether it’s once or a thousand times. The number of times or length of time doesn’t make it less sinful. I don’t applaud the queen for allowing them to live together, but she’s probably thrown up her hands in disgust and exasperation by this time. Philandering sons, philandering grandsons.

Megan reportedly engaged in underage beer drinking while she was in college, and used a fake ID. 😮 Not that I’d want my daughters doing these things, but I don’t think they disqualify a person from being “good.”
According to several articles, they went to Monaco after Christmas and “partied hard,” i.e., drank themselves silly. They can still be “good” people, but “partying hard” isn’t the way to win people over unless one is going for the degenerates. I think they need prayers.

I understand what you are saying. I was surprised and disappointed when William and Kate began cohabitating. I didn’t think they were setting a good example. I am 66 years old so I am old school.
I think the royal family has a history of philandering.
As far as Megan (not sure how she spells her name) marrying into the British royal family, is she ready to adapt and adopt the British culture? I would miss America and all things American and having to live in such a small country. She might be caught up in
all the excitement now, but after they settle in, reality and protocol might set in who knows what will happen. Harry has been a bachelor for quite some time and there have been divorces with Charles, Andrew and Anne.
Her half sister and other family members are already coming out complaining about Harry’s remarks that the Royal family is the family she never had. The half sister says
she had a family growing up and after her parents divorced.
I wish them the best though.

I’m all for righting historical wrongs. I suppose there may be a few snags when the United States returns all her territory to those from whom it was stolen, but no doubt good old freedom-loving American Can-Do will sort it out.

All you wrote is true 7 Sorrows. I just read an article that stated Meghan cannot wear dresses more than two inches above the knee, must wear hose, can only wear nude or very pale pink nail polish, cannot go out alone, cannot take the selfies she seems to love or post more to her own Instagram account, etc.

Being British, I think Kate was more prepared. Meghan is American and American women are used to doing as they please. That will not work in the RF. Well, time will tell. I hope it works out. As you pointed out, they don’t need another divorce among the younger Royals.
