šŸ™‚ The movie ā€œPrincess Brideā€ is a favorite of me, my wife and many of our friends. It seems it is a source on ā€œCatholic Answers Liveā€ of many quotes and quick come-backs. I don’t suppose there is a question I need to ask other than if it is inconceivable that this is so.

I love that movie. It’s a great adventure. I love Andre the Giant’s ā€œpoetic rhymingā€.

I almost never see people use the objective ā€œmeā€ after a preposition. The always say favorite of ā€œmineā€, whic seems redundant. If I could figure out how to give you repuation points I would!

I love that film by the way. So do my boys.

We have it on VHS, I wonder if it is available on DVD? hmmm…off to ebay!

It was one of the first (maybe the first) DVDs we purchased when we got a player.

ā€œAs you wishā€,

I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. ā€œFavorite of meā€, while it may be appropriate in another language, is grammatically incorrect English. The reason people say ā€œFavorite of mineā€ is because it IS correct…sorry if you don’t favor it. Being that ā€œmineā€ is in the place of ā€œmeā€, I guess I don’t understand how it is redundant to your way of thinking.

I actually have my own pet peeves regarding the usage of English, whether correct or not, so really, don’t take this the wrong way!

And for the record, the movie is also a favorite of mine! šŸ™‚

You click on the scales in the upper right hand corner (yes I had to check which hand it was 😃 ) and approve of the post.

Oh, and I think JC is right… ā€œa favorite of mineā€ is gramatically correct…
if you simply stated that it was ā€œa favoriteā€, it could be a favorite of someone else or everyone…
if you switch it around, it would be ā€œone of my favoritesā€, my becomes mine (belonging to me)…

Just my :twocents: , from someone who can’t even write a simple sentence in Word without being told it’s a run-on…

Whatever you do, don’t ā€œlistenā€ to the word program alone. I actually did an experiment with it just to see what a paragraph looked like when it was done ā€œediting.ā€ It made no sense, was full of grammatical errors, etc. Apparently they haven’t been able to create a program that can understand context! šŸ™‚

Anyway, good grammar explanation. I can only explain grammar to a point, but lose it on the technicalities as to why something is correct or not.

OK, sorry, didn’t mean to lead anyone off topic. This is a great thread! And I don’t even think the original question has been answered. As I am not the person for the job, I will respectfully bow out here.

Back to our regularly schedueled programming…the Princess Bride. 😃

Then there is only thing remaining that needs be said of the ā€œme/mineā€ controversy:

ā€œYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.ā€

Yeah, but if you used that as a basis for judgment and spent time in the politics forum,
you might come to the same conclusion about our programmer šŸ˜› .

Inconceivable! 😃

You know, I have to type this left-handed.
It is the only way I can be satisfied.

Awwww Tee… I just got it…
Why are you smiling 😃 … I know something you don’t know…

I am not left-handed!

(And now, on this Father’s Day (US), let us all bow our heads in memory of the great Spanish swordsmith, Domingo Montoya)

I loved the part where whatshisname (the joker who kidnapped the princess) sits down and tries to logically figure out which cup has the poison.

Sorry, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen the movie and I don’t remember the characters’ names!

Maybe it was Vittorio or something like that? You’ve had me beat all day with it…
