TORONTO, Ontario, June 3, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – After a grueling twenty-eight months of uninterrupted imprisonment for witnessing prayerfully outside a Toronto abortion facility, pro-life prisoner of conscience Linda Gibbons was freed Friday.

The great-grandmother had been in prison since January 2009 when she was arrested outside the downtown “Scott Clinic,” which is protected by a 1994 court injunction banning pro-life activity within a specified zone.

She has remained behind bars because she steadfastly refuses to accept a bail condition that requires her to stay away from the abortion facilities.

But her lawyer, Daniel Santoro, told LifeSiteNews Friday that she has now been released without any conditions. He said there was an irregularity in the process that was holding her in custody. Justice Mara Beth Greene has now fixed the problem by issuing Gibbons a summons requiring her to attend court on January 16, 2012.

“The summons did not require her to agree to anything,” Santoro explained. “She didn’t have to promise anything, or acknowledge anything, or sign anything.”

Gibbons has spent over eight years behind bars since the bubble zone injunction was laid down in 1994 as a result of her commitment to praying peacefully outside the facilities.

This Martyr has spent eight years imprisoned for praying outside of abortuaries.This is a complete miscarriage of Canadian Justice based on a “temporary” bubblezone outside baby slaughterhouses.It was a civil offense prosecuted in CRIMINAL court.

I don’t understand how her praying peacefully outside would constitute someone being arrested, whether it was within a bubble boundary or not. That is just stupid. I can understand if she was being roudy or causing problems/ interrupting the public, but she was simply praying.

I’m glad she held true to her beliefs and didn’t sign or agree to not do such a thing again. We need more people like these in the world. She will be rewarded graciously in heaven.

Praying outside of abortion clinics must be a really terrible thing in the eyes of the law, which is supposed to reflect the views of the citizens. Praying in a bubble zone is so bad that it merits prison time. Killing of unborn children inside of abortion clinics, on the other hand, is just fine.
