I had lunch with a fellow manager today to discuss the usual, budgets, expenses etc.,. He is a very nice quiet person (actually he is the Controller of our company) not very opinionated, sort of keeps to himself. No religous or political affiliation that I know of . The topic came up about the election and why Martin and the Liberals are slipping in the polls. I brought up a few issues and he says, “yes all those are probably contributing to the demise of the Liberal Party in the polls but I think there is one issue which deep down inside an overwhelming majority of Canadians don’t agree with and this is same-sex marriage”. He continued to say “and because most opponents of same-sex marriage are afraid to talk for fear of being called bigot or homophope, they are letting Paul Martin know exactly how they feel by voting against him and this legislation, there is a private backlash occuring in Canada because most Canadians are small “c” conservatives.”

Is he correct in his assessment?
