I just sent an e-mail to the presiden tof Saint Joseph’s University. Hopefully, he will listen.

I sent an e-mail as follows:
How do you want us to explain to our youth that the teachings of Holy Mother Church are to be followed if those that are in places of power within the Church don’t follow them?
St. Joseph’s is publicly defying the nation’s Catholic bishops request to stop honoring those that publicly support grave evils. This request was made in a document providing instructions for Catholic colleges and universities.

“The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles,” said the bishops said in a 2004 statement. “They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”

Assuming your non-Catholic family members are Protestant Christians, don’t you find it a little ironic that they would be posing this question? I mean, what, are we not kicking them out of the church or excommunicating them fast enough? Should we be starting a new inquisition? Why is it important for them to see that we deal with people who are obviously promoting dissention from the faith? Hello, Reformation, anyone?
I don’t understand this. You seem to be assuming that (1) protestants are all proabortion; (2) that the church is “kicking them out;” (3) that the church is actively excommunicating protestants; and (4) protestants can have no valid interest in what the church does or doesn’t do. In fact, not all protestants are proabortion; since most protestants were never Catholic the church can’t “kick them out;” excommunicating protestants would serve little purpose since they aren’t in communion with the church in any event; as for posting questions, the church is a powerful religious and political entity, naturally people will have questions about it. But, a new inquisition? About what? Against whom? Reformation? Reformation of what?

Thanks for your response Original, I have been pondering that previous post and not quite understanding the tone. My Protestant relatives are all pro-life, and the specific person I am talking with on this most does indeed have an interest in what the Church does as he may want to become a Catholic.

Holly, Perhaps you didn’t realize that Saint Joseph’s is a Jesuit institution. I know you meant well, but your effort is surely useless.
