Are you kidding… we are one of the best diocese in the US! We lost one of our bishops to the east coast when the priest abuse scandals hit… I think they sent him to NJ. As much as I am sad to lose one of our own, I recognize that it was a good move to send the more conservative bishops towards the coasts because they are needed there.
Elzee you should try reading some of the things our bishop has written… God Bless him, here is a quote from his Festival messege in 2005:
The 1960’s are long over and in this, the twenty-first century of the Christian era, all our
schools, religious education programs, and Newman Centers must, more than ever before, fully
embrace the revealed truth of our religion. Wherever necessary, we should decisively put behind
us the days of watering down Catholic doctrine or encouraging disobedience to moral
imperatives. A religion unable to insist upon its foundational beliefs, especially in its own
programs of education and faith formation, has clearly reached a stage of decadence. It would be
incapable of maintaining its own identity, as it would be unable to even discipline creedal dissent.
Such a church would not and could not claim the time and loyalty of its members. Catholic
Christianity, however, must always boldly proclaim the fullness of Divine Revelation.
And this from 2006:
Priests in our diocese report that many children, even some in our Catholic schools,
confess missing Mass. Now those under the age of sixteen certainly do not drive cars, so
apparently the same parents who almost daily chauffeur their offspring to and from every
conceivable form of bodily athleticism, seem decidedly less concerned about the health of their
childrens immortal souls. Obviously in their own lives, they have somehow come to minimalize
the essential importance of divine worship.
Talk about feeding his flock!!! I love this man!
