Just a thought: Is Pelosi insulting our Catholic Faith or her bishop who is doing nothing about it?
Both, she is an insult to the Faith because of her arrogance and her bishop should make a stand instead of being like so many bishops I see when put in this position, soft.

When I said that there was no acceptable alternative above, I should have said, “acceptable to those involved.”

As to why Speaker of the House Pelosi won’t be disciplined, well, it is because she is too politically powerful to be disciplined.

I received the Catholic Spirit, the diocesan newspaper here in St. Paul and Minneapolis, today and it chock full of articles reflecting the involvement of the church in political activities. In the twenty page paper, I found ten pages that contained no political discussions. Three front page headlines are “St.Thomas Hosts Binational Immigration Conference,” “Legislature 2007 - Closing the affordable housing gap,” 'Abortion opponents march for life,"

Face it, you don’t get heavily involved in national and state politics and then go throwing rocks at the people in power.
I would rephrase that as “Face it, you don’t take government money and then go throwing rocks at the people in power.”

Or to put it another way, who takes the King’s shilling is the King’s man. When we, as a church take government money, we sell our morals to the politicians.

I would like to present an opposite viewpoint on Nancy Pelosi. My understanding is that she married young and had five children under the age of six at one time. Personally, when it comes to politicians, I believe that actions speak louder than words. I assume that when she had those children, she had a choice to keep them or have abortions. Apparently, she chose to keep them, and that was the correct “choice”. So, to my way of thinking, even though she may say she is “pro choice,” she is really pro-life. Somehow, I can’t imagine anyone who has five children under the age of six being anything other than pro-life. I believe that way about all politicians. They can say anything they want to about being pro choice or pro life, but it is the way they actually live their lives that counts.

So I am giving the opposite viewpoint here. Even though Nancy Pelosi may be too liberal for many people’s tastes, I think it is rather cool that a stay-at-home mom actually made it to such a high position.

I might add that it says in the Catechism of the Catholic Church that we are to think highly of people and give them the benefit of the doubt rather than call them terrible sinners behind their back.

A recent survey I read about in the paper said that a huge number of abortions are had by poverty stricken women.
The good old “I would never have an abortion myself, but, I can’t tell someone else what to do arguement.” It is usually brought up to make a person feel better, or feel they are actually pro-life when they aren’t. Sorry, but, it doesn’t work… Abortion is not a grey issue. You are either for it or against it. It is black and white. I think that she is actually an even worse person and kind of arrogant because she experienced the joy of motherhood herself but doesn’t think someone else can handle it. She needs to let the Catholic Church go if she truly believes that it is okay. The Church will not confirm to her, and she is hurting all of us by participating in communion.

I totally agree especially the part about these folks hurting the rest of us. Because we are one body, participation in this henious actvity as “one of us” brings the rest of us into the sin. Conversely, partaking of the Eucharist is probably between them and God, but joing in the universal prayer of the Church, the Mass, as an unepentant sinner, does the same. Gods’ wrath will not stop at their doors, but punishment comes to all the people: witness the numerous times this happened to the Hebrews as the result of this same thing. Catholics are obligated to speak out as a matter of faith, and to keep us in the good graces of our Father.

I wonder how she would feel if someone said, “I would never murder my wife, but if my neighbor wants to murder his wife, well, that’s his choice.”
