This new ad opposing a Maine ballot initiative that would reverse the recent legalization of gay marriage in the state features a Roman Catholic mom. “I’ve been a Catholic all my life. My faith means a lot to me,” she says, as her son, his male partner, and their son sit nearby. “Marriage to me is a great institution that works, and it’s what I want for my children, too.”
The conservative Catholic group CatholicVoteAction.org today is calling for the ad to come down. Here’s part of a statement the group just sent out:
CatholicVoteAction.org President Brian Burch said, “For decades gay and lesbian groups have attacked the Catholic Church for refusing to accept their skewed views on human sexuality and marriage. Having lost that battle, they have now launched this desperate and despicable attempt to curry favor with Catholics by pretending that the Catholic faith supports their radical agenda.”
“Everybody knows the Catholic Church is opposed to counterfeit marriages . . . . For homosexual groups to suggest that the Catholic Church believes otherwise is disingenuous, dishonest, and an insult to the intelligence of Catholic voters in Maine,” said Burch.
“We call on Protect Maine Equality to stop lying about our faith and to immediately pull this ad from the airwaves and from YouTube,” said Burch.

Funny how the GBLT crowd bashes Catholics 24/7 until they find one poor, misguided Catholic mom, who will shill their lies and they put her in an ad!

T**hey need to be consistent, if they hate Catholics, they must hate all Catholics! (Hating Catholics is the only legal exclusion in the Hate Crime Bill!)

They don’t hate all Catholics, keep in mind that Pelosi and Biden are Catholic - thoroughly misguided, publicly sinning Catholics but Catholics none the less.

Marriage is “an institution that works.” What that ad fails to recognize is that gay unions are not marriages because regardless of what some people want or say marriage is between one adult man and one adult woman. I don’t like that a skewed perspective of the Catholic faith and its position on gay marriage is being promoted, especially when some people who advocate for gay marriage call religions that oppose it bigoted. We’re not, we just believe in upholding marriage as it is supposed to be. Also, gay couples raising children is problematic. When that happens, the child is either raised by two women or two men. They are either denied the right to a mother or denied the right to a father, and that is not fair at all.

This is precisely what is wrong in the gay marriage debate. I am not gay. If two homosexuals marry, it has no direct impact on me. But that’s not enough. They profess to want the right to marry, but what they actually are demanding is acceptance. Let’s face it, with divorce rates almost as high as cohabitation rates marriage in the US has a lot more to worry about than homosexuals. But to misrepresent my Church, my faith, is deplorable. But I suppose we bring it on ourselves when we claim such people as Pelosi to be catholic. I am sorry if I offend someone out there, but there’s a reason I’m not a muslim – I don’t believe the teachings of that faith. I am a catholic for precisely the opposite reason. We need to reject the diobolical urge to be PC and stand firm in our beliefs. People who claim to be catholic in public life, but do not believe the teachings of the Church do far more harm than the lesbians next door. Gay marriage? My Church is against it as it is premarital sex, masturbation, extramarital affairs, violence against children, the slaughter of the unborn and divorce. We get enough bad publicity already, someone should make sure that this ad gets pulled asap.

I understand your objection to it, but what would be the legal justification for having it removed from airing?
