A bit of background; for those who don’t know, the Genocide Awareness Project “is a movable pro-life display being temporarily installed on multiple university campuses in the United States and Canada since 1997. The display includes pictures of aborted fetuses juxtaposed next to pictures of abused animals and victims of genocide. The display is produced and managed by the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, a privately funded United States organization” (from WIkipedia).

Needless to say, it’s “fairly” controversial. A lot of people don’t like it due to the shock reasons and very graphic content. The University told the Campus paying Pro-Life group (all of whom paid tuition fees) that they could take their displays and message and go into a closed room. When the students refused to do this, they were arrested for trespassing.

The woman who did most of the talking and was arrested I’ve actually met a few times. One of her brothers is a friend of mine and is a Missionary. Another of her brothers I’ve known for years and is a Priest with the Companions of the Cross. She’s a friendly, quiet girl, and now she’s been arrested.

As a Carleton U. graduate I wrote to the university president to express my concern over how they handled this.

Imagine if the university forced any other kind of protesters to stage their protest in a closed room. It is obvious discrimination.

They claim that the images are “offensive”, but actually they are medical images. They might make people feel squeemish, but the only people they could offend are people who are offended by the pro-life message. Some people are offended by the message, which is not a valid reason to censor.
