Rarely is any good done without difficulty; the devil is too subtle and the world too corrupt not to attempt to nip such a good work in the bud. – St. Vincent de Paul

The YAF pro-life display before it was vandalized.
The blue and pink flags represent the number of children aborted each DAY according to the article. But it doesn’t say WHERE. In the U.S. there were 1.2 million abortions in 2011 (per the link below) … so the 500 per day number is likely “in Chicago” or “in Illinois” as at that number the total for a year would be “just” 182,500! :sad_yes:

Flags were thrown in garbage cans around campus.

Just over a month ago in Chicago (same city as De Paul is located) … THIS was a story that hit the news (see link just above). Not flags – but an actual baby’s body was thrown into a trash can on that occasion.

No telling if the December “trashing” incident “inspired” this January vandalism - but when life itself is not respected in a land, should we expect holy places like a free speech area at Catholic University to be respected?

The group (YAF) that put out the flag display went through the channels and received permission to do so. It was a non-violent protest against an injustice that the Church tells its members to oppose. I wonder what will happen (if anything) to the 20 or so vandals caught on videotape?

On one hand … not much damage was done and in fact this act will blow up in the faces of those who sought to silence this pro-life protest. On the other hand it’s intimidation and
opposing free speech and as the press said it is ‘vandalism’ per the display.

The display will be decried by some as ‘controversial’ no doubt yet …

THIS however, has been “displayed” in connection with De Paul unchallenged (even verbally so far as I can tell) for years. What IS it?

It’s actually one of the official trademarks of De Paul University whose nickname for sports is the “Blue Demons”. The name wasn’t always the Blue Demons. It was changed to Blue Demons from its previous name … the Purple Demons!

Somewhere in heaven St. Vincent de Paul is scratching his head and wondering why “his” University has to be the demons while St. Mary’s gets to be the “Gaels”. 😉

Oh boy. I think Rome needs to start stripping some University’s of their Catholic titles. The sheer amount of heterodxy in some of them including their willingness to cast the Faith aside to play the tune as the current administration requires is disgusting. Poor St. Vincent De Paul. I think its time that these “Catholic” universities need to pick their allegiance. The time has come for them to choose either Rome and the Holy Father, or the current administration. You cannot serve two masters, especially when the two masters in question hold opposite views to each other.

Rant over.

LOL. I like rants myself.

In THIS case the University is GOOD! But even as a young Catholic schoolkid from Chicago I wondered why De Paul called themselves the Purple (now Blue) demons.

This logo is sort of scary … and it’s of more recent vintage than the old cartoonish “impish” demons they used for their (especially) famous basketball teams.

I’m glad the pro-life group got the OK to do their demonstration … so kudos to De Paul for that. Maybe there is some good news in this … in that the story got out and the offending group looks “intolerant” of free speech etc.

The “pro-choice speakers’ controversies” at Georgetown and Notre Dame were more
scandalous per their University’s official Catholic reputations than this incident at De Paul. The logo thing aside. But maybe a big sweatshirt with THAT logo being awarded to a “pro-choice” speaker would send a “picture is worth a thousand words” kind of a deal! 😃
