Pro-life does not mean anti-gay

6/28/2005 http://www.buffalonews.com/images/space.gif I support the Buffalo Right to Life Committee’s efforts to end abortion, the ultimate in child abuse. However, I wish to distance myself from the committee leadership’s opinion on gays. I was shocked by their rude behavior toward the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus. They do not speak for me or other pro-lifers I know. Gay people are born gay. My gay cousin did not chose to be gay any more than I chose to be straight. It is important to know that pro-life does not equal anti-gay.

Anti “gay” sex and anti “gay” agenda and anti “gay” propaganda.

Right. It just certainly means anti gay sex.

No, it doesn’t. The abortion issue is separate from the issue of whether or not we should hate gays.

Pro-life is not just a one-dimensional mentality. It is an all-encompassing lifestyle.

If you’re pro-modern-gay-movement, you’re pro-child-abuse. How would you like to be a child facing adoption these days? Just like any other nonsense diversity policy, they’ll have to give the same (or better) consideration to gay couples trying to adopt. It’s a crapshoot.

If gays want to be actively gay, well, that’s their choice as a creature with free will. But if they bring children into the matter and ask for political and religious justification, then they cross the line.

Oh I believe it. There have been several of these in the Buffalo News lately. Thanks to our Diocesan leadership we have to see faithful Catholics twist in the wind while even “pro-lifers” condemn them.

They are absolutely connected. Read a book by Christopher West.

Both the pro-abortion community and the pro-homosexual community deliberately seperate the sexual act from it’s life-giving purpose. Both abortion and homosexual relations are abominations that rip families apart to their core. Both heavily promote “free sex”, which results in disease and despair.

Yes. You are right. THE MOST important connection - both movements are purposely abusive and neglectful to children.

Rude behavior?

What I find ironic is this - to defend being gay, people say that homosexuals were born that way, making it okay. The same has been said of everything from alcoholics to child molesters to serial killers - that they were born that way. Does it make it okay? Of course not, it’s just a smoke screen.

Someone chooses to be gay and by choosing this they give up their role in creating life. Simple.

It is putting sex first.

Perhaps some are born to commit abortion or perform abortions? Must be ok as long as one is born that way. Seems logical.

That’s an interesting albeit purposefully and intentionally deceitful formulation of the issue that’s just a little tiring.

You are wrong. Being part of the Culture of Life means being against the Culture of Death – of which gays are a part of.

Very well said.

One of the “chants” the pro-aborts used when I was participating in pro-life work was “Racist, sexist, anti-gay, born-again bigots, go away!”

Committing abortion is not an orientation - homosexuality is (according to the 1986 Letter on the Pastoral Care of the Homosexual Person): that is the difference:

  1. It has been argued that the homosexual orientation in certain cases is not the result of deliberate choice; and so the homosexual person would then have no choice but to behave in a homosexual fashion. Lacking freedom, such a person, even if engaged in homosexual activity, would not be culpable.
Here, the Church’s wise moral tradition is necessary since it warns against generalizations in judging individual cases. In fact, circumstances may exist, or may have existed in the past, which would reduce or remove the culpability of the individual in a given instance; or other circumstances may increase it. What is at all costs to be avoided is the unfounded and demeaning assumption that the sexual behaviour of homosexual persons is always and totally compulsive and therefore inculpable. What is essential is that the fundamental liberty which characterizes the human person and gives him his dignity be recognized as belonging to the homosexual person as well. As in every conversion from evil, the abandonment of homosexual activity will require a profound collaboration of the individual with God’s liberating grace."
