Pro-life people hate women?

Can we stop focusing on the woman for a moment? Where is the guy? Isn’t he responsible? And if the woman allowed him to have sex with her, what does that mean? Nothing?
Well, what do you propose? I know men who pay for child support, some pay little some pay a lot, some don’t pay any at all. If you throw the noncompliant ones in jail, how will paying child support be paid if he is in jail and not earning money? What about the ones who leave the state to avoid paying child payment?
It’s not complicated. Self control is one answer. 100% guaranteed Zero unwanted babies and Zero STDs. 100%, and Guaranteed. No birth control pill or device is 100% guaranteed.
God bless,
Ed
Ok, as someone chaste, I’m inclined to agree with you. However, how do you get people to stop having sex? sterization is against the rules of the Church. Putting chastity belts on everyone obviously has some ethical and moral implications. Putting everyone who has sex without wanting to have children in jail will just flood the jails, which comes with it’s own costs and burdens on society. How can we accomplish zero unwanted babies when people have been enjoying sexual freedom, and want to continue enjoying sexual freedom? We can tax them for every kid they have…but if they have no money, they can’t pay them anyway. Consider China, where it’s taboo to have more than one child. The result is increased taxes, or sterilization, or abortion, but that hasn’t resolved the problem for them, so what would work for this country?

Uh, isn’t it obvious? Over the last 40 years, and in every year, everything gets more sexualized. A recent issue of Cosmopolitan had 50 new sexual suggestions to go with the last 5,009,876 to the 10th power they’ve published over the last 30 years. I don’t think there are that many atoms in the visible universe.

Gangsta rappers talk about itches and hs and the movies present boy meets girl, hop in the sack, followed by, Oh my god! I’m in a relationship with the biggest loser on the planet!"

Pornography has gone “mainstream” according to the nonreligious on another forum I moderate.

I was watching a computer game demo where the character goes off screen to have a sexual encounter with a female along with added sound effects.

Abstinence education is denounced as the worst idea evar.

Solution? Tell people about Jesus. Then, tell them why most movies and TV programs are harmful. How computer games and other seemingly innocent forms of entertainment teach them to have casual sex.

God bless,
Ed

I agree. So how do you propose getting the message out? I personally think individually is best, but maybe you might have a better and more effective idea. But what if your recipient doesn’t want to hear about Jesus? Can you take it on a secular level? When I talk to people about abstinence and birth control, I try to do it from a secular viewpoint. Sometimes people will listen, and sometimes not. I can talk to them about the media too. And what if that is poorly received? Then what do you do?

The current problems in society hinge on a lack of two things: faith and hope. The internet is a 24/7 thrill ride that never ends. We have a bazillion ways to distract ourselves, and aside from work, can avoid dealing with reality.

This lack of hope was expressed by a conversation I heard on Catholic Radio where a young man said he would like to have a life-long committed relationship with one woman but he despaired at finding such a person. At one time, sexual virginity was respected. Today, you could believe it no longer exists. That’s not true. There are Catholic sites where Catholics are looking for a truly committed fellow Catholic.

As Catholics, we need to ignore the world’s idea of success. The angels in Heaven rejoice over one sinner who has repented and turned to Christ. I’ve done street witnessing. Some will listen, some will not. If you help just one, isn’t that tremendous? Coercion is forbidden. Yes, we can present our views about men and women from the secular side. God, the Holy Spirit, will show the way to a more spiritual dialogue.

We can’t do it all ourselves, but every time we see an opportunity, we should say or do something. This forum is one good place. A lot of non-Catholics either post here or read the posts. Some churches have fellowships and outreach programs. I was listening to Father Riccardo on Catholic Radio as he addressed his Church group. He asked all those involved in witnessing to raise their hands. Some did, the majority did not. He reminded everyone that we are all called to be missionaries. It’s not just the job of the priest to share the Gospel. He also exhorted his parishioners to “do something,” whether in politics or in some other area. I met a solid group of Christians and prayed with them in front of an abortion clinic.

Pray to God for guidance and He will show you a way.

God bless,
Ed

Having babies is WAY more expensive than just having an abortion. Abortion only costs a couple hundred to several hundred, depending on how far along the woman is. It doesn’t just end with getting public aid for prenatal care, delivery costs and a few days of post delivery care. What about the rest? The woman’s needs don’t end when she delivers her baby.

How is this to be resolved? There are a LOT of legal and ethical issues to consider regarding this whole picture. It’s not going to be simple to fix.
It is resolved when she places the child for adoption.

Because a woman can become pregnant more than once in her life.

Let’s say we have 100 women. If we determine that 35 of them have had an abortion, that is 35%.

But out of those women, 50 had been pregnant more than once, so we have a have a total of 150 pregnancies. Since 35 of that 150 pregnancies ended in abortion, that is 22% (ish)
OK, yeah, I get that.

The website does not address multiple abortions.

In 2005, for example, according to the data on the website there were about 20 abortions per 1000 women. (2%) In that year, I wonder how many women might have had multiple abortions?

How does that support the claim earlier on in this thread that a third of women have had abortions? (33%)

That’s great, I’m glad you believe in one-on-one dialog to bring people to the Church. What were your experiences with street evangelizing? Did you ever go door to door? I believe one-on-one dialog is potentially probably going to be the most effective way to stop abortions. It’s too complex an issue, with no easy answers. Therefore the most effective way to stop someone from having an abortion is to make them not want to have one. One-on-one dialog with someone in what feels like to them, a hopeless situation, can do wonders for a person.

Usually, we would go out by twos. We would visit laundromats and just offer people on the street some reading material. In front of the abortion clinic, I would just pray. One of our number was a young lady who had had an abortion at that clinic and she did most of the talking or just offered literature directing young women to abortion alternatives.

Like the sower and the seed, once the Gospel message gets out there, the Holy Spirit does the rest.

God bless,
Ed

What kinds of alternatives are covered in your literature? Do you include information on how to apply for aid for prenatal care, birth costs and aftercare? Does it include where to go for services that are pro-life friendly? What about after the baby is born, is there information on how to get help like paying rent, electric, gas, water, grocery shopping for what WIC doesn’t cover, supplies and equipment for the baby like diapers ( or information on cloth diapers), breastfeeding consulting referrals, strollers, etc? What about stress relieving strategies?

It’s a really good idea to put together a bunch of resources. I’m going to start collecting things in folders.

Project Rachel is one resource:

project-rachel.net/

hopeafterabortion.com/

And Priests for Life:

priestsforlife.org/

The average young woman who goes for an abortion can be doing it for a variety of reasons:

Boyfriend or husband will end the relationship if she does not get the abortion.

Parents will throw her out on the street if she does not get the abortion.

I should point out that a couple of ladies from a Christian Church approached us to say the following: “Our pastor never talks about this.”

Hope this helps,
Ed
