Methinks most politicians try to stay away from the issue altogether. Which is probably a good thing since there’s not much they can do anyway, at least in the U.S. The Supreme Court has the ultimate power in the abortion issue and they are appointed by the president, who beforehand doesn’t know how they will judge. Don’t forget, Catholics in NY forced the Roe vs Wade issue and justices during a Republican administration decided that matter, so it’s not just the Democrats.
But all the judges were not appointed by Republicans. And any judge can change as he sits on the court. Kennedy and O’Connor have not voted as expected.

Declare them excommunicated and deny them holy communion. This is especially so if the thing is related to abortion.

Very true. But don’t forget they’re not appointed for their abortion stand only. And even then each may have his/her own way of dealing with it. Seems as if letting the states deal with it (as they really should by the 10th Amendment) would be the only viable way out of Roe vs Wade. Right now many states want to increase restrictions on abortions but are held in check by the fact the restrictions may not hold up by the Supreme Court.

Good points. The founding father envisioned that most things would be decided in the states. They endorsed a small federal government. My, have we ever changed. Even Ruth Bador Ginsberg said that Roe v Wade was decided by bad law. Another case of the justices finding something in the Constitution that is not there and legislating from the bench.
