Pro-lifers assaulted while collecting signatures against abortion
Madrid, Spain, Apr 28, 2009 / 03:24 pm (CNA).- On Saturday, April 25, three volunteers of the Right to Life organization and a Chilean in the town of El Ferrol were victims a brutal assault by a group of seven young people who attacked them as they were collecting signatures against the law on abortion sponsored by the Socialist government.
Gador Joya, the organization’s spokeswoman, is demanding the attack be condemned by federal officials in the province of Galicia and that they bring the assailants to justice.
“Once again we see the lack of arguments of those who defend the most radical positions: intolerance and violence have no place in a state based on the rule of law,” she said.

“Unfortunately, these acts have taken place after the Minister of Equality herself (Bibiana Aido) expressed scorn for those of us who civilly express our rejection of their legal reform of abortion and who have been labeled ‘fundamentalists.’” This poor example by Aido, said Joya, “speaks very little of the prudence that every leader ought to have, especially in order to discourage violence by the most extreme groups, such as that which we suffered today in El Ferrol.”

It is horrible that this has happened. However, I am happy that some of those interviewed are not discouraged by this incident of hatred and will continue to fight the evils of abortion. May we pray for our brothers and sisters who fight these evils throughout the world.

Amen.

There are those who refuse to believe persecution is real—as they will continue, even if our faith is outright forbidden.

Persecution is already here in the US. I wait to see how long it will be before a priest or catholic administrator will be arrested, or the facility closed, for refusing to offer a service, either because the service is against church teaching, or the the person requesting the service is not entitled under church law.

“Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.” (Acts 5:41).

While both inexcusable and unjust, we are just seeing the tip of the hatred iceberg! It is our fault because we have been too timid and scared to witness to the Truth of Jesus Christ!

The Good News is that it’s not too late to stand up and make a difference. Start with your family and friends. Pray unceasingly and ask that you may be given the grace and the strength to speak the Truth, no matter what the cost to you personally. Live a life of loving sacrifice and joy!

**When they say “I see Jesus within you!”, then you have achieved the first step toward the Martyr’s Crown.

"Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles." **(Mt 12:18).

We must “see Jesus” in these poor, misguided people and lovingly pray for their conversion.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the Cross of Jesus, going on before.

and…as St. Padre Pio said: “The Rosary is the weapon”!!

Psalms 37:1-10

Of David. Do not be provoked by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong.

Like grass they wither quickly; like green plants they wilt away.

Trust in the LORD and do good that you may dwell in the land and live secure.

Find your delight in the LORD who will give you your heart’s desire.

Commit your way to the LORD; trust that God will act

And make your integrity shine like the dawn, your vindication like noonday.

Be still before the LORD; wait for God. Do not be provoked by the prosperous, nor by malicious schemers.

Give up your anger, abandon your wrath; do not be provoked; it brings only harm.

Those who do evil will be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD will possess the land.

Wait a little, and the wicked will be no more; look for them and they will not be there.

-But most of all remember that Jesus told us to pray for our enemies.

I am not surprised…If you don’t respect life at the beginning, you aren’t going to respect it any other time either

With all due respect, the evidence is quite thin. Making rules for or even constraining a Church ministry is not persecution, in my opinion.

I did mention that there will be some who refuse to believe, even as they are being dragged from their own houses.

With all due respect, your opinion is not consistent with the definition of persecution.

From WIkipedia
‘Religious persecution is the systematic mistreatment of an individual or group of individuals as a response to their religious beliefs or affiliations.’
Nonetheless, I believe that even if you were being murdered ( God forbid it ) and the person said this is because you are catholic, even then you would probably not believe it is persecution. BTW I wish no harm, and I am not making any threats.

OK, where’s the systematic mistreatment? Don’t be so eager to be a victim.

Well the most recent was the publication by the Department Homeland Security, which targets those who they call “right-wing extremists”; however, it includes those who are pro-life and have attachment to such causes. I would call that systematic persecution, as it attacks Catholics directly.

You can also read the complaint that was filed by the Thomas More Law Center against the DHS and they hold the same idea that it is a form of persecution/intimidation. thomasmore.org/downloads/sb_thomasmore/ComplaintAgainstDepartmentofHomelandSecurity.pdf

This is just an example of the government acting in such a manner. It does not include the various way in which society belittles, attacks, and defames Christianity. So, I would say a degree of persecution does exist in American society.

Actually, no. The memo cited some anti-abortion protest groups as potential domestic terrorists. On another thread, it was shown where such groups had killed about 14 people in three years or so.

And, as a lawyer, I can tell you that the Thomas More Center is a somewhat narrow-minded group which is wrong at least as often as it is right in litigation. We happen to live in a pluralistic society but that center would have Christianity established as our publicly sponsored religion.

So, there is no systematic persecution of Christians shown.

What memo are you talking about? I think I must be reading the wrong one. How about a citation of the paragraphs where they mention the anti-abortion groups they have in mind?

And yet the pro-abortion people like to say that the violence only comes from the pro-life side. Wrong! There is way more violence on the pro-abortion side! The proof is all the dead babies!

As another attorney, I wholeheartedly disagree, and kindly ask that you provide evidence to support such harsh criticism.

As I mentioned earlier that is but one, example of persecution against Catholics.

You can look at catholicleague.org/annualreport.php and see the annual reports from the Catholic League and see if you think there is a degree of persecution which exists in American society.

As far as the DHS document, I as well as the Law Center and many other Catholics and Pro-Lifers still see it as a document that is used to intimidate and persecute. There may have been apologies issued from DHS for their comments on veterans, but they never apologized to those who are pro-life.

My favorite was when the More Center got into high dudgeon over a California public school class which was using the Koran and learning about Islam. It turns out that it was a history class and they had someone acting the role of a priest and studying the middle-ages Church before that. But the Center’s publicity machine went into high gear!

I just feel those folks do not understand pluralism. and I can remember the Center being so wrong in a case that it had to pay attorney fees for the opposing party.

As shown on a recent thread, the anti-abortion movement has had a number of murders committed by its members, unlike the pro-choice movement. And the anti-abortion movement has a significant portion of Klan members and Holocaust deniers. Like the Atlanta Olympics bomber. No wonder that it is being monitored for terroristic threats.

The democratic party has a number of klan members and holocaust deniers., maybe they should be investigated.

i find your choice of rhetoric confusing. why labely them anti-abortion and pro-choice. why not pro-life and pro-infanticide, or pro-life and anti-life. the terms you used are typically propoganda of the butchers at planned parenthood and it troubles me that you use them too.

now this is just my opinion, but it makes you seem like you are opposed to the pro-life movement. this makes your defense of accusations against them more poingnant. and since your porfile says you are Catholic this is a source of confusion. perhaps some clarification on your part could clear it up and help the dialogue proceed,

either way this thread is just one more example. it isnt enough that the agents of death are allowed to prey on the unborn at whim, now with this and DHS coming down they are attacking the people trying to defend the innocents.
