In other words: I dislike strawberries. You find my reason for disliking strawberries “not credible”. I also state I don’t like vanilla. Because you find me in-credible you conclude that you like vanilla.
How I feel about strawberries has no bearing on what you should think about vanilla in the least.*
Apples and oranges. Now you’re talking about matters of personal taste. An equivalent vis-a-vis the Harry Potter novels would be one person saying ‘I love them, JK Rowling is a master storyteller’ and another person saying ‘They’re dreadfully written, poorly developed stories–I loathe them’. Both are opinions that are based on personal preferences not rational thought (same with the strawberry and vanilla).
The fact is that by sacrificing credibility with the Harry Potter novels, the best you can hope for is that some person undecided about the Golden Compass will consider your opinions irrelevant. As I stated before: It’s not to say that they are wrong about the Golden Compass, just that the credibility isn’t there because of the previous dishonesty. Integrity is hard to regain once lost.
You simply attack “HP HATERS” out of reflex because they are attacking your precious beloved stories.
That’s fine with me, as I could not care less whether you act rationally or not.
