I had a friend who was a Scientologist. She is still my friend, just no longer a Scientologist. I think one of the other elements in dealing with this issue of porn before marital relations is the reality of grace. Automatically by being something other than a Catholic you are not going to have the same or any understanding of the grace that God gives to those who live in him by Baptism. Either way, watching movies of that sort before you and your wife have relations is demeaning - both for the parties who made the porn and for you two for putting yourselves in the presence of these peoples’ acts of video recorded lust. But that is just the first thing; the other is that (depending on your faith in God you may not understand) God designed the sexual act between a married man and woman to be something beautiful and holy. And really the act is only truly beautiful if it remains pure and holy. The watching of porn before is robbing both of you of this because it is making that act something that is motivated by lust rather than love. A love which comes from the total gift of self by which makes ‘the act’ something that is always open to life and makes it more than something that happens because the two of you wanted release for all the lustful thoughts or desires you might have had.
