Proof of Jesus?

From what I read and seemed to understand in your post it dealt more about the persecution of Christians and not about Jesus. What I am looking for and it may have been provided already from other posters (still looking up the links provided) is a written account of the crucifixion of Jesus or his life outside of a religious text.
The GreyPilgrim:
Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus
The above quote points to the historical record.
The GreyPilgrim:
Many of the cruel things that Nero liked to do to Christians was to crucify them along the streets, throw pitch on them, and then light them on fire. While they were burning he would taunt them by saying, **“Now you are truly the light of the world!..” **

During the seige of Jerusalem the Romans had these catapults(balista) that could launch a stone weighing a talent(75-85 lbs.) up to a quarter-mile. The stones weren’t enough to breach the walls but what the Romans would do is launch the stones against one of the towers and the stones would shatter. The purpose was anti-personnel; to injure the people with these shards of rock.

Well, the Jewish soldiers on the walls, it was their job to warn the people when the Romans had launched these stones by saying “aben”, meaning “the stone is coming.”

Well many times when the Romans launched a stone these guards would not yell “aben” but “ben”-meaning** “the son is coming!” **They were mocking the Christians about the second coming!
Both of the above instances are indirect references to Jesus by Jews and Romans. They were quoting the teachings of Jesus in mockery of Christians. It testifies to not only the historical accuracy of Jesus but also of how widespread His teachings had become in a very short time(30 a.d.-64 a.d.).

Hi, The GreyPilgrim.

There’s plenty of evidence for Jesus outside the NT. I recently bought a book by JP Holding (I keep bringing him up in threads, but he’s just so good!!!) called “Shattering the Christ-Myth”. A section of the book is devoted to the references to Jesus by Josephus, Tacitus, Pliny the Younger, and more. His site has articles on the same topic: www.tektonics.org

Also, don’t get discouraged if you don’t expect Jesus to be all over the historical record. Jesus wasn’t an amazingly popular dude. He wasn’t a politician, he wasn’t royalty. He was a poor Jewish preacher, who was crucified! (The worst kind of punishment, a total disgrace.) I imagine 1st century historians saw him as just another wacky preacher.

I’m always fascinated by the references. The re-constructed Josephus reference is amazing. What’s also interesting, is when you look at Pliny the Younger’s reference to Jesus, he said his followers got together to eat “harmless food”. (Obviously trying to dispel rumors that Christians were cannibals. Good proof for the Eucharist!)

God Bless.
Are you directing this to me or the OP?

…who was crucified! (The worst kind of punishment, a total disgrace.) .
 may be , this is correct according to OT. What about NT ? Does it also say that who is killed on Cross/ tree is a cursed one ??

I think planten might be referring to Emperor Heraclius who ruled the Eastern Roman Empire and the Battle of Yarmouk.
**Yes, you seem to be right. That was a Roman Catholic King at Rome who had a battle with the king (Khusro Pervez) of Persia in the year 618 A.D. (approx.) The Roman Catholic Kings forces were defeated by the pagan Persians. At that time our prophet Muhammad and his followers were being highly persecuted in Makkah.

Then due to the prayers of our prophet Muhammad in favor of the Catholics, Allah ordained that The Roman Catholic forces will overcome the Persians within 3 to 9 years. It was also told by Allah that there will be good news and the Muslims will then celebrate double happiness. (See Quran Chapter 30 please.)

IT came true. The prophet migrated to Madinah in year 622 A.D. There was a battle between the Romans and the Persians in year 623 A.D. There was also a battle between the Pagan Arabs and the Muslims at the field of Badr.( about 100 miles from Madinah). The Romans overcame and defeated the Pesians. The Muslims defeated the Pagans of Makkah. Many Pagans were killed.

So we know there was a king, a Roman king whose forces fought a battle (after the passing away of Muhammad) with the Muslims at Yarmouk. There were 10,000 Muslim soldiers and 100,000 Roman soldiers. It was a very tough battle for the Muslims. But they beat the Romans successfully and that was the end of the pride of the Roman Catholic King Caesor.

That king knew all about Muhammad. Our prophet even wrote a (lovely) letter to that king inviting him to Islam, He almost believed in our prophet Muhammad’s message. But it was difficult for him to declare his belief openly.

Thanks Iwesshome, for helping me to the identity of that Roman King. Thanks.**

I always wondered this and maybe you can help. Is there any proof of Jesus outside of the Bible? Anything recorded about his life and his death? If anything his death may have been recorded by the Romans or Jews but I was wondering where I might find this type of information in a non-religious format (for neutrality). Books? Websites? Anything you can think of that might point me into a direction will be appreciated.
there’s Josephus, Tacitus, and a few other secular Roman historians showing the historicity of Jesus. This doesn’t prove he was a man god who rose from death, or that the surrounding culture he grew up in (Judaism) wasn’t just a small mid eastern cult who framed their religion on other pagan faiths in the region.

Obviously there’s a higher bar of evidence required to show one was a god man or a prophet of some invisible god, and this sort of evidence does not exist with regard to any world religion.
